Van Mahotsav:
About 350 saplings were planted during the Van Mahotsav that was jointly organised by IFFCO and Panjkosi Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Government Senior Secondary School for Girls at village Panjkosi on Saturday. MLA Sunil Jakhar was the chief guest. IffCO senior area manager RK Upveja and manager (agricultural services) RL Sethi also spoke about the preservation of environment. Eye surgeon Dr Gagan Chalana and principal Rajesh Dhuria exhorted the students to be more concerned over healthcare.

Free eye check-up camp: More than 400 patients were examined by a team led by Dr SL Chalana and Dr Gagan Chalana during the free eye check-up and operation camp that was organised by the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd (IffCO) under the aegis of Kisan Welfare Trust in village Jandwala Hanwanta on Sunday. Legislator Sunil Jakhar was the chief guest. He lauded the organisation for having benefited over 5000 persons during such camps in rural areas of the sub-division.

Dodge ball tourney: Amrit Model School and Brahmarishi Mission School teams have been declared as winners in the Under-19 category for girls and boys respectively in the district dodge ball tournament organised by the education department, Sunit Kalra informed today.

College scores 100 pc result:
Claiming 100 per cent result in the classes being run under the distance education programme (DEP) during the 2009-10 session, principal of the Swami Vivekanand Girls College Raj Gupta said the college was providing a number of vocational, technical, behavioural courses like fashion technology, which make the students self-dependent.

St Joseph’s Convent wins poster-making contest: Binay Pal of the St.Joseph's Convent School clinched the first prize in the poster-making competition that was held at local RB DAV Senior Secondary Public School here on Saturday. Painting their thoughts in effective and vibrant ways, Deepu Wilson and Banmeet Singh got second prizes while Daksh Mittal and Rajesh Kumar bagged third prizes. Meanwhile, Parin of the Delhi Public School got a special prize. Giving details, principal of the school Dr Satwant Bhullar said about 20 schools participated in the competition and District Education Officer (Secondary) Harbans Singh Sandhu was the chief guest.

The Legal Literacy Cell of Smt Aruna Asaf Ali Government PG College, Kalka, organised various competitions like declamation, essay writing, slogan writing, debate and on-the-spot painting on Saturday. Manoj of MA-I, Mahak of BCom-II, Prabhjot of BCom-II, Jyoti of BA-II, InderJeet of BSc emerged winners. SK Manocha, principal of the college, urged students to take part in extra-curricular activities.
