DMA protests against conversion charges
New Delhi, June 27 However, the emergency and the Intensive Care Unit services were kept outside the purview of the shutdown. The DMA president Dr Ramesh Dutta claimed that the shut-down was successful. "The DMA protested against the move of the MCD at the behest of the urban development ministry. This will lead to the escalation of cost of medical services," the DMA president said. He said the Delhi government had been neglecting the demands raised by them and the DMA is being forced to agitate. Dr Dutta expressed the hope that the government would address the demands raised by the association. "These charges are unfair. It is affecting the medical fraternity as well as the patients. These charges will have to be borne by patients. Ultimately, these will lead to collapse of medical services," he added. He said the annually mixed land use charges should be fixed only for once. |

6,220 ration cards modified
New Delhi, June 27 The work on modifying the ration cards was started on the orders issued by the Delhi minister of food and civil supply following the receipt of a number of complaints regarding spelling mistakes in cards. The mistake was noticed even in the ration card of Congress MLA Parvez Hashmi who represented Okhla assembly constituency. He raised this issue during the last assembly session. The ration card modification work was started on June 1 and till June 25, a total of 6,220 cards had been modified, said Dwivedi. He said that there were 70 circles in the national Capital. In some areas like circles 5, 10, 11, 26, 31, 35, 44 and 57, the modification was very slow. A meeting was called today to find out the reason for the delay in the work. In 2005, the Delhi government had given a contract to a private company to prepare the ration cards. However, the company made a number of spelling mistakes in the cards. Now, the contract of the company has been cancelled and the department itself is making the corrections. As far as ration cards for jhuggi dwellers are concerned, the department has identified 900 clusters for the purpose. The applications for new cards are being accepted. The last date to submit the application for a new ration card is August 31. The ration card for jhuggi dwellers were banned in 1998. This issue was raised during the last assembly session by the opposition parties. Thereafter, this decision was taken to restart this process. Recently, the Delhi Cabinet also gave its nod to make ration cards for residents of jhuggi clusters. |
