Cops on the mat for slipshod probe of rape case

Expressing displeasure over the “slipshod” probe by Delhi Police in a six-year-old “gang rape” case of a minor, a city court has asked the Commissioner of Police to take strict action against the cops responsible for “sabotaging” the case.

Faridabad, May 3
How vigilant is the police department these days? This was demonstrated by a broad daylight loot by three motorcycle-borne youths, who barged into a petrol pump located in the heart of the town this morning. The armed robbers decamped after looting Rs 12 lakh from the employees of the pump, who were counting the cash at that time. This is perhaps the biggest loot in the town in the past one year.

‘BJP politics opportunistic’

Paramjeet Singh Pamma of the Congress party alleged that the BJP has “not done anything for the riot victims”, and has only “scratched their wounds”. Addressing a meeting in Namdhari Colony in support of the Congress candidate for the Assembly election, Shriram Maggo, Pamma said the BJP only raises the issue of rehabilitation of the riot victims prior to the elections.

Heavy rains that lashed the city over the past one week have left behind a trail of uncleared garbage bins and water logged roads. Conditions are appalling in slum clusters, particularly on the banks of drain no. 6, where many pockets are submerged. Nearly 20,000 people live in the unauthorised slum clusters and resettlement colonies where planned development has taken a backseat.

The former Chief Justice of India, Justice J. S. Verma, will deliver the 5th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture on May 5, 2004 at the Vigyan Bhawan here. Inaugurating a workshop at the School of Communication and Cine Arts at sector- 47 here, the noted theatre personality, Mr M.K Raina, expressed his anguish that “projecting the glamorous lifestyle of small percentage of the population has become the predominant theme of the electronic media. On the other hand, 80 per cent of the people living in the rural and semi-urban areas were being ignored, he lamented. He said this media was focussed on the glitz and glamour while failing to touch the masses.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police today claimed to have arrested two desperate criminals from the Kirpal Complex near Vikas Marg. The arrested criminals were involved in number of cases of murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act cases.

Three killed as car rams motorcycle

Three members of a family, including two women, were injured when the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a car on the Sonepat-Meerut inter-state road near Khewra village, about 13 km from here last evening.

DU-Kashmere Gate metro line likely to open in December: Sreedharan

The Delhi University-Kashmere Gate section of the Delhi Metro is likely to be opened by December this year and the underground section from ISBT to Central Secretariat by June 2005, DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan said today.

Akash Sudan hits for  Frank Anthony School
New Delhi, May 3
A strokeful century by Akash Sudan (103, 13x4, 3x6) and deadly bowling by Yash Kumar (3 for 12) helped Frank Anthony Academy defeat Shahdara Sports by 114 runs in a league match of the Jr Master Cup Under-10 Cricket Tournament at the Frank Anthony School ground. Akash was declared the man of the match.

Shastri Club sail into Devender cricket final

Lal Bahadur Shastri Club defeated S G Sports by 57 runs and entered the final of the Devender Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Central Secretariat ground. Shastri scored 281 all out in 44.4 overs. But S G Sports failed to achieve the target and manage to score 224 all out in 39.4 overs.

Khusbu, Ankita advance into TT finals

Khusbu defeated Mrilani Mondal 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7 to enter the under-18 age group final of the fourth Pallavi Malhotra Inter-School Table Tennis Tournament played at the Bal Bharati School, Pitampura. In the under-17 semi-final, Ankita Aggarwal defeated Dipshika Verma 11-8, 7-11. 11-9, 6-11, 11-5.
