New Delhi, May 3
The Delhi University-Kashmere Gate section of the Delhi Metro is likely to be opened by December this year and the underground section from ISBT to Central Secretariat by June 2005, DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan said today.
Mr Sreedharan said the Metro had been able to move from the implementation stage to the operational and maintenance stage in the first phase, and line 1 was carrying on an average 116,000 passengers daily on 248 trains with the frequency of trains being six minutes during peak hours. The daily fare collection is Rs 12.35 lakh, he said.
The MD of the DMRC said the Metro should shine out as a model and a mode of transport that was attractive, modern, acceptable, clean, efficient, reliable and safe. Maintaining that the DMRC was committed to providing world class metro service to the city, he said the employees should be sympathetic, considerate and helpful to the public.
He also praised the Delhi Government and the Centre for providing help and guidance. Delhi Lt-Governor Vijai Kapoor said the DMRC had more challenges ahead as it had to continue with the technical standards already established.
Development on half-a-km on each side on the Metro corridor also had to be planned properly.
Delhi Chief Secretary Shailaja Chandra presided over the function in the absence of DMRC Chairman N. N. Khanna.
