Admn steps up drive to collect licensed arms Sonepat, May 3 According to a report, a list of such license holders has already been sent to all the police stations so that action could be taken against those who have failed to deposit their arms in the police stations. There were about 5,000 holders of arms licenses who are required to deposit their arms in the police stations. This step has been taken by the district administration so that law and order could be maintained during the Lok Sabha elections. It may be recalled that the District Magistrate of Sonepat had issued as many as 3,249 arms licenses from the year 1990 to date. However, no new license had been issued since March 10 after the enforcement of the model code of conduct by the Election Commission for the Lok Sabha elections. The order of the District Magistrate, however, will not apply on the private security guards employed by commercial establishments, petrol pumps, showrooms, jewellery houses and the industrial units. Meanwhile, most of the government officials and the employees on duty for the Lok Sabha elections have so far failed to fill up Form 12 for exercising their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections. The last date of depositing such forms is May 4. If they failed to deposit such forms by May 4 will be deprived of voting through the mail. The polling will take place on May 10. |
