Chautala seeks Sonepat
seat for INLD Gurgaon, January 14 According to sources, Mr Chautala has demanded Sonepat seat, presently held by Mr Kisan Singh Sangwan of the BJP, along with Rohtak, Kurukshtera, Sirsa, Hisar and Bhiwani seats presently represented by the INLD. The INLD-BJP combine had made a clean sweep in Haryana with each winning five seats in the last Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won Mahendergarh, Faridabad, Karnal, Ambala and Sonepat seats. Senior leaders in the BJP anticipate the INLD exchanging perhaps the Bhiwani or Rohtak seat in case it was given the Sonepat seat. The feeling doing the round in various political quarters is that the demand for Sonepat seat is a shrewd political move by the INLD in order to kill several birds with one stone. There is a popular opinion that the Bhiwani seat, presently held by Mr Ajay Singh, son of Mr Om Prakash Chautala, may be a problematic constituency for the INLD. Mr Ajay Singh had won defeating the HVP nominee, Mr Surender Singh-who is son of former Chief Minister and HVP supremo, Mr Bansi Lal. Hence, Sonepat is comparatively a safe seat for the INLD. |
Bhajan Lal rules out pact with HVP Hisar, January 14 Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Bhajan Lal said he would contest both elections if the Assembly elections were also held simultaneously. He said there was no possibility of an electoral alliance with the Haryana Vikas Party
(HVP) in the forthcoming election as its president Mr Bansi Lal was issuing statements against Ms Sonia Gandhi. There was no need for an alliance with any other party in Haryana as the state unit was capable of contesting the election on its own. He said HPCC would organise a state-level rally here in the next month. The rally would be addressed by Ms Sonia Gandhi. |
Ekta Shakti to contest LS poll Panipat, January 14 Addressing the gathering at the grain ground, he criticised the government for adopting anti farmer policy. Mr Verma said none of the Chief Ministers had thought about the need to provide basic amenities to the people of this region. The water and electricity problem was still there at the villages of northern part the state. |
Registration of cases blamed on Abhay Chandigarh, January 14 Talking to newsmen here Mr Pratap Singh said his son, Ravi, had been implicated in six false cases, allegedly at the instance of Mr Abhay Singh, younger son of the Chief Minister, who is the INLD MLA from the Rori constituency. Ravi had already been released on bail in five cases. The sixth case against Ravi, he said, was registered on January 6. He alleged that the cases against Ravi were being registered to dissuade him from contesting the next Assembly elections from Rori. On January 6, Ravi was on his public contact programme in Rori when the police asked him to leave the constituency because Mr Abhay Singh was to distribute blankets there on the same day. When Ravi refused to oblige, Mr Pratap Singh alleged, the police beat up those who had arranged his(Ravi’s) functions. The Chief Minister’s brother said a case under Sections 332, 353, 506, 148, 149, IPC, and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against Ravi on the complaint of the SHOs of Dabwali City and Dabwali Sadar police stations. The SHOs alleged that Ravi, along with six other persons, came to the police station and threatened them with dire consequences. Ravi and one of his associates were allegedly carrying firearms. Despite the registration of a false case against his son, Mr Pratap Singh said, Mrs Mamta Singh, SP, Sirsa, placed SHO Mahabir Singh under suspension because he had refused to include sections 395 and 397,IPC(Dacoity), in the FIR against Ravi. Mr Pratap Singh claimed that the Chief Minister’s son wanted that Ravi should be accused of snatching the service revolvers of the police officials. Mr Pratap Singh said his family would not leave its native village and would oppose the Chief Minister. He said he was planning to move the High Court or the Supreme Court against Mr Chautala’s highhandedness after taking elders of the family into confidence. |
Coop law to be amended to rein in loan defaulters Chandigarh, January 14 According to sources, the department has sent the proposal for Cabinet approval. The proposal is likely to come up at the next Cabinet meeting. However, in view of the impending Lok Sabha elections, the Cabinet may postpone a decision on the proposal. The state government had constituted a three-member ministerial committee to deliberate on the possible amendments to the cooperative law so that action could be taken against those who did not repay loans. The proposed amendments are based on the recommendations of the committee. It has been proposed that Section 65 should be dropped from the cooperative law. Under this section, a loanee is not required to pay more than double the principal amount irrespective of the period for which he uses the loan amount. With the abolition of this section, the defaulters would be required to pay interest for the entire period for which the loan would remain unpaid. This would put pressure on the defaulters to clear their dues at the earliest. The department has also proposed that Section 104 should be amended to give powers to the Presidents of cooperative societies to take action against defaulters. Under the existing law, the Presidents cannot take any action against a member of the society if he defaults. |

Hoax sms foxes
BSNL cell users Ambala, January 14 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited pre-paid subscribers today received a message claiming that a special scheme had been launched to mark the ‘12th’ anniversary of BSNL. The subscribers just needed to forward the message to five more BSNL pre-paid subscribers to avail Rs 150 worth of free talk time, the hoax message claimed. The hoax sms stated “BSNL celebrates its 12th anniversary by giving a special offer to all its prepaid customers. Just forward this message to five BSNL customers and get Rs 150 talk time free.” General Manager BSNL mobile, Mr MS Dhillon, said the message was a hoax and they had not launched any such scheme. “As soon as we received this message, we have flashed the message ‘no sms scheme’,” he said. The sms sent a large number of BSNL subscribers into a tizzy and they forwarded the message to five more pre-paid excel subscribers. By late afternoon, a number of BSNL subscribers had received the message. The large number of messages led to a sharp increase in the sms traffic in Haryana. There was a concern among telecom officials about the large sms traffic caused by the hoax message. An official said they were closely monitoring the situation. “While there was a sudden increase in messages during afternoon, it had comparatively slackened by late evening. People have called up our office to clarify about the scheme,” he said. He pointed out that there was no question of BSNL celebrating its 12th anniversary as it was formed less than four years back. “Also, it seemed to be a chain message which should naturally alert an individual.
After all, no service provider can stand to gain from such a message and in any case, we will properly advertise if we are launching a new scheme,” he
said. |
Struggling to keep a tradition alive FREE-HAND embroidery, a traditional art frame work of the Indian rural lifestyle which has been fading away in the present fast-paced information era, is being preserved by a housewife of Ambala city. It is really difficult to maintain a hobby which is not only time consuming but also needs a lot of patience in the today’s speedy life. Sarla Kashyap , wife of a senior judicial officer, has devoted herself to this art of free hand embroidery for the last two decades. She said that she was inspired by her mother for this art when she was studying in seventh standard. Her grandmother used to say that girls should not sit idle. They should utilise the time learning household works , knitting and stitching. A few decades back when embroidery machines were not available in the market, girls used to make embroidery work manually and during matrimonial enquiry it was counted up as an additional qualification. Sarla, who basically belongs to Pathankot, has made around six dozen wall hangings displaying various patterns of landscape and the lifestyle of remote villages of Punjab. This rare art is worked out with hundreds of different coloured threads and needles on a specific cloth canvas by putting lots of hard work, patience and time. It also needs concentration as one has to sit for hours while embodying a landscape. Two of the best sceneries — ‘spring in full bloom’ and ‘ancient village scene’ of Sarla Kashyap were appreciated by art lovers which took about six months to complete. She wants that this vanishing art should have been adopted by the girls of today’s era but none of them were found interested in the manually operated art. Although through the embroidery machine such scenery could be prepared with in hours while manually it take weeks to complete. Sarla is of the view that machine-made embroidery could not replace hand-made embroidery. Sarla wants to organise an exhibition of her art landscapes in an art lovers’ city like Chandigarh but she could not get any opportunity so far. “I know that in a city like Ambala this art cannot be recognised. Even than I will not leave it till my last breath”, she added. |
