Political parties in election mode
Ludhiana, January 14
Every party is aiming at the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. At the national level, the BJP will call for early elections. Leaders of all political parties are in the election mode now. As far as Punjab is concerned, the situation is very difficult to assess because of the circumstances prevailing in the Congress and the Akali Dal.

Makar Sankranti celebrated
Ludhiana, January 14
Makar Sankranti, the festival heralding the new year, was celebrated with religious fervour all over the city and surrounding towns and villages today.
As the day began, people started thronging gurdwaras and temples of the city to pay obeisance and hear the auspicious name of the “Maag” month at religious places of their choice.
