Student
commits suicide in hostel Kurukshetra, November 6 According to police sources, Balwinder who was visiting a friend at the hostel vomited in the hostel room in the absence of his friend. An electrician immediately informed some students and the hostel authorities. seeing the deteriorating condition of Balwinder, they took him to hospital where he collapsed. The Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, Dr J.S. Kadiyan and hostel warden, Raj Kumar Deswal, among others, reached the hospital. Mr Deswal told mediapersons that Balwinder had come as a guest of his friend, Rajpal, who had handed over the room's key to Balwinder before leaving for home. Dr Kadiyan said the room had been locked immediately after Balwinder was taken to the hospital and was opened in the presence of the hostel authorities and the university security staff, besides relatives of the deceased. The room was searched but no clue leading to the cause of the suicide was found. A piece of paper mentioning some medicines was found in the pocket of the victim. |

for gurdwaras endorsed Chandigarh, November 6 In a resolution adopted at Gurdwara Patshahi 1 and Patshahi 10 on the occasion of the Kapal Mochan mela at Billaspur (Yamunanagar) today, the congregation by raising hands adopted the suggestion made at a meeting between SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra, and Mr Daljit Singh of the UK that all gurdwaras worldwide should follow a uniform policy with regard to the conduct of religious ceremonies as well as their administration. The resolution was moved by Jathedar Kartar Singh Takkar of the Haryana State Shiromani Akali Dal. By another resolution, a separate Sikh gurdwara committee for Haryana was demanded. The congregation resolved that the existing system should continue till the new Gurdwara Act was passed. Jathedar Takkar clarified that at the time of approving the draft for a new all-India gurdwara Bill, the proposal for a separate 50-member Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee would be included. |
Maximum
sanctioning limit raised Chandigarh, November 6 The head of office would henceforth have the power to reimburse bills upto Rs 10,000 against Rs 501 to Rs 1,000 earlier. Similarly, the head of a department would now have powers to clear such bills up to Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 1,001 to Rs 2,000 earlier. The Administrative Secretaries would have full powers to clear such bills up to any extent. |
Youth held for raping minor Sirsa, November 6 The case was registered on the complaint of a gardener of the Haryana Tourism in which he alleged that his minor daughter, a student of class X, had been coaxed to elope by Rajesh on the night of October 22 this year. Another case against Rajesh had been pending since August for assaulting and abducting Hari Ram, brother of the minor's father. This case was registered on the complaint of Hari Ram, who alleged that Rajesh and Dharampal, along with four others, came to his place of duty in a van armed with weapons. They asked for his younger brother (the minor's father) against whom they bore some grudge. They then beat Hari Ram with iron rods and abducted him and later they threw him near Ganga village. — UNI |
