Viral fever claims lives of 13 minors in 48 hours Karnal, October 19 Senior officials of the Health Department have ruled out the possibility of Dengue or Japanese Encephalitis behind the deaths. As per the reports three children of one family have died of acute viral infection at Lodha Basti (Samalkha) during the past 48 hours. Seven-year-old Balwan, son of Jawahar Lal, had high fever followed by blood in vomiting. He was referred to the PGI, Rohtak, by health officials of Panipat but died on the way. The family also lost two minor girls. Nine-year-old Gita died of acute viral infection on Saturday while her younger sister Radha (7) died a day earlier. Four children of Kheri Gujjar (Sonepat) village have also died during the period. Musaida (5), daughter of Ishak, Rizvaan (6), son of Shaukat, Aazam (4), son of Salim, Priyanka (8), daughter of Madan Lal, and another eight-year-old girl, daughter of Mahavir Singh reportedly died of acute viral fever during treatment. At least 20 children of the same village are reported to be suffering from viral fever. In Jai Singh Pura (Gurgaon), two girls are reported to have died on Saturday night. Rukhsar (8), daughter of Khalil, and Shehnaaz (12), daughter of Khurshid, had acute fever with symptoms of Dengue and died during treatment. Four-year-old Jawed, a resident of Ferozpur Namak (Mewat) village, died of viral infection on Saturday. Earlier, in Ferozpur Namak, Arhbar and Salaheri (Mewat) five children were reported to have died during the past one week due to viral infection. Akram (8), son of Farukh, a resident of Ferozpur Namak village, died on October 16. Another two-year-old girl of the same village had died a couple of days back. In Salaheri village, Sahuni (7) died of viral infection on Saturday. In the same village, six-year-old Busra was reported to have died on October 17. In Arhbar village Ferozi (28), wife of Noordin, died of severe fever on Saturday. One death has also been reported in Karnal district during the past 24 hours. |
Health Dept told to take action against quacks Bhiwani, October 19 Mr Chautala said this while redressing grievances of the people at a meeting of the public relations and grievances committee here. Nathu Ram of Golagarh village had made a complaint that a person was operating as a doctor at Jui bus stand without a certificate to practice. He said as soon as he injected a medicine to him, he started feeling pain in his hand and thereafter the members of his family had to rush him to Bhiwani. The investigation revealed that the doctor had used the injection, the date of which was expired. The Civil Surgeon said an FIR had been lodged against the accused and further investigation was in progress. In yet another complaint, Mr Chautala directed the officials of the Transport Department to check unauthorised plying of vehicles. Mr Dharmender of Bhiwani had made a complaint that some vehicles were plying unauthorisedly ahead of the vehicles of the transport societies. |
Cong plans rally in ex-CM’s memory Fatehabad, October 19 Mr Nehra said the Congress was emerging as a potent force throughout the country which was evident from the results of five states. He alleged that the government had failed to fulfil the promises made before coming to power four years ago. He said not to speak of providing free power and water to the farmers, the government had failed to provide basic infrastructure at a reasonable cost. He said the government had promised to provide jobs to 90,000 youths but it had instead robbed 20,000 employees of government jobs. Mr Nehra said the rally would lay emphasis on the code of conduct for politicians. He said Chowdhary Dalbir Singh, father of the AICC spokesperson, Ms Selja Kumari, stood for ethics, good conduct and austerity in politics. |
Second water works for Bhiwani Bhiwani, October 19 This was stated by Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala while addressing a largely attended public meeting after inaugurating the second water works for Bhiwani at Tosham bypass today. It has been constructed at a cost of over Rs 22 crore. Mr Chautala said with the commissioning of the water works, about two lakh people of Bhiwani would get 150 litres of water per capita per day and there would be no shortage of water in the town. He said a boosting station had been set up at Dadri road to provide potable drinking water to people living in colonies located from the railway bridge to Dadri Gate. An overhead tank with a capacity of five lakh litres of water had also been set up. While reiterating the commitment of his government to provide safe drinking water to the people in the state, Mr Chautala said a sum of Rs 22.15 crore was being spent to improve the supply of drinking water in 25 towns in the state. Out of these, work had been completed in six towns and in case of other towns the work would be completed within the current financial year. |
PWD to ensure quality of works Chandigarh, October 19 This was claimed at a meeting of departmental officers held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. Mr Anil Razdan, Financial Commissioner and Secretary, PWD, told the Chief Minister that the measures taken to ensure quality of works include linking the payment of contractors with quality control reports, strengthening of quality control cells and enhancing the defect liability period in all major road contracts to two years. Completion reports would now be issued only after certification by a committee, which would check the riding quality of roads by using the
roughometer. |
