Pak MPs for peace, more interaction Faridabad, October 16 This was stated by the members of a delegation of MPs of Pakistan who visited the town on the invitation of the Indo-Pak International Society of Emotions here last evening. Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmed from Kasoor, Mr Omar Zasman Kaira from Gujarat and Mr Zulfikar Ali Gondal, members of the National Assembly of Pakistan and representing the Pakistan Peoples Party, spoke to mediapersons and selected local residents about the present political
scenario on both sides. They said their only mission was peace and they believed that interaction between people on both sides could play a vital role. Mr Gondal, who is a former Army officer and represents Mandi Bahawalbin seat in Pakistan parliament, said Pakistan and India had been spending a big part of their budget on defence sector, which he said, could have been used on development. He said Pakistan had been spending 42 per cent of its budget on defence and a whopping 56 per cent was being spent on repaying loans. Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmed, who is leading the six-member delegation, said problems were same on both sides and issues of contention between the two countries had been a creation of leaders on both sides. He said war was no solution. He said the enmity between the two nations was only a means to divert people’s attention from issues like poverty and unemployment. He said both India and Pakistan were serving the interests of the USA who had been selling its weapons to these countries. Mr Qamar Zaman said any third country should not be allowed to take advantage of the situation. |

BSP not to have poll pact: Sherwal Ambala, October 16 Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Sherwal said they would contest all 90 seats without any alliance partner. “I am confident that we are in a position to secure 55 seats which will help us in forming the government in the state,” he said. Mr Sherwal said at present he was holding guidance programme for activists in different districts. “We have already covered seven districts and Ambala is the eighth district under the programme,” he said. He said the BSP was different from other parties since it was an ideology-based party. “Regional parties like the INLD and the HVP do not have any issue. They have failed to carry out development and there is unemployment and poverty in the state,” he said. Mr Sherwal said Mr Kanshi Ram formed the BSP so to remove inequality. When the BSP came into being, there were eight national parties. Today, only the BJP and the Congress are left. And we will leave them behind in the next elections,” he said. Mr Sherwal said in Haryana they had one MLA, in Bihar five MLAs, in Chhattisgarh seven MLAs, in Jammu and Kashmir three MLAs, in Kerala one MLA and in Madhya Pradesh 13 MLAs. “In Haryana, we are now following the Uttar Pradesh pattern. We have taken people from different walks of life into our fold. There are now 1.25 lakh office-bearers.” he said. Mr Sherwal alleged that the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ms Mayawati was being framed in the Taj corridor case. Mr Vikas Gupta, Ms Kusum
Sherwal, Mr Jagdish, Mr Rameshwar Das, Mr Ram Phal were also present on the occasion. |
