Assembly poll on schedule
Ambala, August 16
The Chief Minister, Haryana, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, has said that the Lok Sabha and Haryana Assembly elections will be held on schedule. He asked the party workers to get ready for these elections. Mr Chautala had come here to address a meeting of the state executive of the INLD. All ministers, MLAs, chairmen of boards and corporations, presidents of various cells of the party and the district and constituency units were present at the meeting.

When CM came to the rescue
Chandigarh, August 16
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, stopped his cavalcade yesterday to help a lady, stated a Press release issued here today. The release, quoting a Haryana Police spokesman said, Mr Chautala, on seeing the lady shouting for help near Zirakpur, stopped his cavalcade to find out what was wrong with her.

Haryana transfers 4 IAS, 6 HCS officers
Chandigarh, August 16
The Haryana Government today issued transfer and posting orders of four IAS, six HCS and one District Revenue Officer with immediate effect.
Mr D.R. Dhingra, Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies, has been posted as Joint Secretary, Dairy Development and Fisheries against a vacant post.

Diarrhoea breaks out in Sirsa
Sirsa, August 16
Diarrhoea has broken out in the local J.J. Colony. According to information more than 12 persons have been reported to be suffering from diarrhoea. Nine persons have been admitted to the Civil Hospital. Cases of diarrhoea have also been reported from other parts of the city.

Play glorifies martyrs
Kaithal, August 16
As part of golden jubilee celebrations of the local RKSD (PG) college here, playwriter Gursharan Singh yesterday staged a play ‘Aaj Ka Bhagat Singh’ to pay tributes to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for their motherland.

A poignant moment for martyr’s parents
Ambala, August 16
A badge of sacrifice and certificate of honour was presented to parents of martyr Major Amit Ahuja at a presentation ceremony held at the Headquarters Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh (Independent) Sub-Area today. Sub-Area Commander, Brig D.C. Katoch, presented the badge of sacrifice and the certificate of honour to the parents of Major Ahuja who attained martyrdom on August 22, 2001.

Kranti jyoti yatras by the Congress workers on August 9 from Kaithal, Pai, Pundri, Guhla and Kalayat culminated on the Independence Day at the Congress Bhavan here yesterday.

The Students Federation of India organised a seminar on “History of Freedom Struggle” here today. Mr Vikram Matana, district president of the federation, presided over the seminar.

2 youths run over by train
Ambala, August 16
Two youths were run over by Baraoni Express in Ambala city today. The bodies have not been identified so far. According to information, the incident occurred when the youths were crossing an unmanned crossing in the city near Agarsain Chowk.

Assembly poll on schedule

The Chief Minister, Haryana, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, has said that the Lok Sabha and Haryana Assembly elections will be held on schedule. He asked the party workers to get ready for these elections. Mr Chautala had come here to address a meeting of the state executive of the INLD. All ministers, MLAs, chairmen of boards and corporations, presidents of various cells of the party and the district and constituency units were present at the meeting.

Later talking to mediapersons, Mr Chautala said the Haryana Assembly session had been summoned from September 9. He said some of the Opposition parties were spreading rumours that mid-term Lok Sabha elections would be held, which was not correct.

Mr Chautala criticised the HVP chief, Mr Bansi Lal, for his statements that the statues of Devi Lal would be demolished if he came to power. He said Bansi Lal and Bhajan Lal could never be chief ministers again as the people of Haryana had rejected them.

Replying to a question, he said the Haryana Government had provided facilities to the family members of the martyrs. He said he did not know the complete facts about an incident of manhandling of the brother of a martyr at Independence Day function here.

Earlier, addressing party workers, the Chief Minister said the INLD would get a big success in the Rajasthan Assembly elections. He said the INLD would emerge as the third force there.

When CM came to the rescue

The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, stopped his cavalcade yesterday to help a lady, stated a Press release issued here today.

The release, quoting a Haryana Police spokesman said, Mr Chautala, on seeing the lady shouting for help near Zirakpur, stopped his cavalcade to find out what was wrong with her. She told the Chief Minister that two injured persons were lying on the wayside. She had been trying to stop a car for taking the injured persons to hospital, she said.

Following instructions from the Chief Minister, the staff accompanying him picked up the injured persons and admitted them to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh. The UT police was informed accordingly. Mr Chautala also arranged a car so that the relatives of the two injured persons could be contacted.

The Chief Minister was all praise for the lady for trying to help a fellow human being and said, “others should emulate her.”

Haryana transfers 4 IAS, 6 HCS officers

The Haryana Government today issued transfer and posting orders of four IAS, six HCS and one District Revenue Officer with immediate effect.

Mr D.R. Dhingra, Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies, has been posted as Joint Secretary, Dairy Development and Fisheries against a vacant post.

Mr H.S. Dhankar, Managing Director, Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation and Haryana Dairy Development Corporation, has been given the additional charge of Registrar, Cooperative Societies, vice Mr S.S. Dhillon, who is proceeding on foreign training.

Mr Balraj Singh, Joint Secretary, Power Department and Director, Power Reforms, has been given the additional charge of Joint Secretary, Secretariat Establishment.

Mr Pankaj Yadav, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Gohana, has been posted as such at Guhla vice Mr Mahabir Singh Yadav who goes as Under Secretary, Urban Development Department, against a vacant post.

Mr Mahender Singh Yadav, Estate Officer, Haryana Urban Development Authority, Faridabad, has been posted as Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Sheetla Devi Shrine Board, Gurgaon, vice Mr Yash Pal.

Mr Suraj Bhan-II, District Transport Officer, Narnaul, goes as General Manager, Haryana Roadways, Delhi, vice Mr Yash Pal, who becomes Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Meham, and Managing Director, Cooperative Sugar Mills, Meham, vice Mr Shakti Singh.

Mr Shakti Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Meham, and Managing Director, Cooperative Sugar Mills, Meham, and Assistant Director, Consolidation of Holdings, Rohtak, goes as Estate Officer, Haryana Urban Development Authority, Faridabad.

Mr Sanjay Rai, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Kaithal, has been given the additional charge of Estate Officer, HUDA, Kaithal, against a vacant post.

Mr Ram Avtar Gupta, District Revenue Officer, Bhiwani, has been given the additional charge of District Transport Officer, Bhiwani, against a vacant post.

Meanwhile, the transfer orders of Mr Suraj Bhan-I have been cancelled and he will continue to work as Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Gohana, and also Managing Director, Cooperative Sugar Mills, Gohana.

Diarrhoea breaks out in Sirsa

Sirsa, August 16
Diarrhoea has broken out in the local J.J. Colony. According to information more than 12 persons have been reported to be suffering from diarrhoea. Nine persons have been admitted to the Civil Hospital. Cases of diarrhoea have also been reported from other parts of the city.

The patients, when contacted, complained that the Public Health Department did not pay heed to their complaints on the contaminated drinking water supply that continued for several weeks. The Superintending Engineer, Public Health Department, R.C. Bansal denied having received any complaint in this regard.

Play glorifies martyrs

Kaithal, August 16
As part of golden jubilee celebrations of the local RKSD (PG) college here, playwriter Gursharan Singh yesterday staged a play ‘Aaj Ka Bhagat Singh’ to pay tributes to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for their motherland. Gursharan Singh, giving concluding comments, expressed anguish over the fall in moral values and gave a call to all, particularly the youth, to follow the footsteps of Bhagat Singh and his companions. In the second play ‘Kesro’ written by Balwant Gargi and directed by Gursharan Singh, the condition of women was highlighted . The play appealed for the uplift of the status of women.

Mr Yogender Nehra, SP, who was the chief guest at the function, urged the youth not to forget the sacrifices made by the martyrs for their motherland. The students of RKSD college also presented plays and sang patriotic songs. Mr Y.K. Mangal, president of the college governing body, thanked the chief guest Gursharan Singh and stage artistes for their performance. — OC

A poignant moment for martyr’s parents

A badge of sacrifice and certificate of honour was presented to parents of martyr Major Amit Ahuja at a presentation ceremony held at the Headquarters Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh (Independent) Sub-Area today.

Sub-Area Commander, Brig D.C. Katoch, presented the badge of sacrifice and the certificate of honour to the parents of Major Ahuja who attained martyrdom on August 22, 2001.

Mr Yash Pal Ahuja and Mrs Santosh Ahuja could not hold back their tears when they were presented with the badge of sacrifice. It was a poignant moment for the family members.

The presentation ceremony was held to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by Major Ahuja beyond the call of duty. School children sang patriotic songs on the occasion. A large number of senior Army officers were present. Major Ahuja from 2 Dogra, was hit by Pakistan shell in the Gurez sector in (J&K). From a young age, Major Ahuja had aspired to become an Army officer.

Kranti jyoti yatras by the Congress workers on August 9 from Kaithal, Pai, Pundri, Guhla and Kalayat culminated on the Independence Day at the Congress Bhavan here yesterday. Mr Tejinder Mann, a former minister, and state president, Haryana Kisan-Khet Mazdoor Congress hosted the National Flag at the Congress Bhavan and paid tributes to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.

Mr Ishwar Singh, DCC president, Mr Dillu Ram and Mr Jogi Ram former MLAs, Mr Dharam Pal Chhot, state general secretary, Haryana Krishak Samaj, Mr Mukesh Jain, state president, Haryana Beopar Sangh (youth wing), Mr Kavi Raj Sharma, former member, Housing Board Haryana and other Congress leaders and prominent congress workers were present.

Seminar on ‘History of Freedom Struggle’

The Students Federation of India (SFI) organised a seminar on “History of Freedom Struggle” here today. Mr Vikram Matana, district president of the federation, presided over the seminar.

Mr Krishan Swaroop, the state general secretary of the Haryana Kisan Sabha, said farmers, labourers, students and youths had played a major role in India’s struggle for freedom. Meanwhile, the SFI also organised a meeting to review the preparations for its proposed agitation under its Save Education Campaign against the recent fee hike.

2 youths run over by train

Two youths were run over by Baraoni Express in Ambala city today. The bodies have not been identified so far.

According to information, the incident occurred when the youths were crossing an unmanned crossing in the city near Agarsain Chowk. The railway police sent the bodies to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A few months ago, two students were run over by a train at the same crossing. People of the city have been demanding a sub-way.

Voter card process in Rattia tomorrow

The process of taking photographs for issuing identity cards to voters of the Rattia (reserved) Assembly constituency will begin on August 18 and continue till August 26. The district election officer, Dr R.B. Langyan, told mediapersons here today that the schedule had been made as per the instructions of the Election Commissioner to issue identity cards to those voters who had not got these.

Monsoon session from Sept 2

The monsoon session of the Haryana Assembly will commence on September 9 at 2 pm. This was decided in a meeting of the state Cabinet held here today.

The Cabinet also approved a notification regarding exemption from payment of stamp duty on paper executed by loanee farmers of Primary Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Banks registered under the Cooperative Societies Act.
