SYL: HVP, others to put pressure on Advani

Hisar, September 8
Mr Surender Singh, former MP and general secretary of the Haryana Vikas Party, today said that his father and former Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal along with representatives of other political parties would meet the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, to put pressure on the Centre for the early completion of the Satluj-Yamuna Link canal.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said the HVP was holding discussions with other political parties of Haryana. Mr Bansi Lal had already discussed the issue with Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former HPCC president and Mr Krishan Pal Gujjar, a legislator and senior BJP leader. Mr Gujjar had given his consent on the issue.

He said in the all-party meeting called by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Parkash Chautala, at Chandigarh recently, it was decided to submit a memorandum to the Governor. Mr Bansi Lal had objected this saying that the Governor was not in a position to put pressure on Punjab for the early completion of the SYL. He said a delegation of political parties of Haryana would meet Mr Adwani soon.

He alleged that Mr Chautala was not serious on the SYL canal issue and he was only issuing statements to mislead the people of Haryana. He alleged that Mr Chautala was tight-lipped when his family friend Mr Parkash Singh Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Mr Surender Singh also criticised the Chautala government for not submitting a detailed report on drought situation to the Centre. He said the recent statement of the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Ajit Singh, had exposed the anti-farmer attitude of Mr Chautala in which he said that the state government had not submitted any memorandum to the Centre.

Later, he addressed a meeting of party workers at Jat Dharmshala here. Mr Jogender Singh, senior Congress leader and former minister and Ms Bhajan Kaur, a former member of Zila Parishad, also joined the HVP. Mr Surender Singh welcomed them in the partyfold Mr Kanwal Singh, Chairman, HVP Parliamentary Board and Mr Attar Singh Saini, a former minister also addressed the meeting.

Narnaul, September 8

Lashing out at INLD leaders, the Congress leader said they had attained power each time with the help of false promises and attractive slogans.

On the SYL issue, Mr Bhajan Lal said the stone of the canal was laid during his regime and 95 per cent of its construction work was completed during his rule. He said the historical decision given by the apex court recently was the result of a writ lodged during his tenure. He categorically said, “I will bring water share of south Haryana by completing the construction of the canal.”

Several leaders from other parties like former Minister Amar Singh, Kailash Soni and Iqbal Saini, Municipal Commissioners, Surender Yadav, Nripender Yadav announced to join the Congress. Hooda for  Rs 700 as MSP for paddy
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 8
Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Leader of the Opposition in Haryana, has demanded that the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy should be Rs 700 per quintal in view of the rise in the cost of inputs. A special bonus should also be announced to give relief to farmers who have been reeling under the effect of drought, he said.

In a statement issued here today, the Congress leader also alleged that paddy arrivals had already started coming in the markets of Haryana but the state government had neither taken the initiative to get the MSP announced nor it had so far fixed a date for the government agencies entering the market for purchase of paddy. Farmers were compelled to resort to distress sale of their produce due to the apathy of the state government, Mr Hooda alleged. He lamented that the drought-affected farmers were yet to get any help from the government.
