How did ABVP manage to have the last laugh?

The official verdict is out. The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has handed the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) a major drubbing in the DUSU elections. ABVP managed to take three out of the four posts on DUSU, thereby completely reversing the results of last year, when the result was exactly alike, only in favour of NSUI.

Watershed plan proves a boon to Jhajjar farmers

The watershed programme launched in the mid-90s in the desert-prone south and southern-western parts of Jhajjar district appears to have helped the administration curb the expansion of the desert in that area.

3 killed in rain-lashed city
Meerut, September 8
Three persons, including a child, died as a two-storeyed house collapsed due to torrential rain in the city for the past two days. Several areas of the city were also submerged and presented the look of small ponds.

Admn razes houses, shops of murder accused
Sonepat, September 8
Officials of the district administration, accompanied by a strong contingent of the police, swung into action on Saturday and demolished residential places and shops built in different parts of the city by a triple murder case accused. This is the first-ever action taken by the administration to teach a lesson to a murder accused.

Huda plans to spend Rs 200 cr in Gurgaon
Gurgaon, September 8
To provide world class infrastructure and facilities, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is executing various projects costing more than Rs 200 crore in the city. Giving details of the projects, the Huda Administrator, Mr Mehtab Singh Sehrawat, informed ‘NCR Tribune’ that the construction works for a mini-secretariat, a huge sports complex, a state-of-the-art auditorium-cum-convention centre, modern jail complex, a new college, police station, clubs, schools etc were in full swing.

UHBVN drive  yields good results, better revenue
Sonepat, September 8
The anti-power theft campaign launched by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) in its Sonepat circle has yielded good results and better revenue. Mr S. N. Roy, Deputy Commissioner, told mediapersons here today the officials of the nigam had checked several premises of consumers last month and detected 274 cases of power theft.

Free legal aid centre set up
New Delhi, September 8
A free family counselling and legal aid centre was set up and a medical check-up camp organised today by the Delhi Legal Services Authority in association with the S.P Memorial Trust, Narela, at Vijay Nagar.

New Delhi:
A mahapanchayat of representatives of Scheduled Caste and Backward Classes held at Sultanpuri Majra village in outer Delhi today decided to organise a mahasammelan on September 21 at Talkatora Stadium.

Accused in triple murder surrenders
Sonepat, September 8
Poli, an accused in a triple murder case, surrendered before a Judicial Magistrate here who remanded him to police custody for five days for further interrogation. According to a report, another accused, Sonu, has already been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. 

3 bootleggers held, liquor seized 
New Delhi, September 8
The West district police today claimed to have arrested three persons who were involved in bootlegging and seized 43 cartons of Bonnie Scot whisky and Commando XXX Rum along with three scooters used for smuggling the liquor.

Madhu, Sandeep win Rajiv Marathon
New Delhi, September 8
Madhu of MCD Public School, Shahdara and Sandeep of GSS School, Ranjit Nagar emerged victorious in the girls and boys races respectively in the 11 to 14 years age group, in the ninth NSCI-Rajiv Gandhi Marathon Run for school-going children from the slum and jhuggi-jhonpri clusters in Delhi, held in the Capital on Sunday.

130 umpires attend BCCI seminar

One hundred and thirty umpires from all over the country, including ICC (International Cricket Council) panel umpires, participated in the 14th Board of Control for Cricket in India All-India Umpires’ Seminar, organised by the Delhi and District Cricket Association, in Delhi (DDCA).

Sonnet rain goal  on Super Star
New Delhi, September 8
Sonnet beat Super Stars by 6-2 goals in a match of Delhi State Hockey League for Clubs played at Shivji Stadium. The half-time score was 5-0 goals. Pushpinder Singh scored the 1st goal in 7th minute. Amrik Singh scored the 2nd goal in 10th minute. Nanak scored the 3rd goal in 15th minute.

Uma to open sports fest
Faridabad, September 8
Union Coal Minister Uma Bharti will inaugurate the 16th Haryana State Women Sports Festival to be held at sports Complex here from today. The inauguration will take place at 3.30 pm and the president of Haryana Olympic Association Abhay Singh Chautala will also be present.
