Jalandhar, October 17
The life of a transplant kidney could enhance over 10 years if patient takes prescribed medicines regularly and change his life style as per the advice of the physician.

For the best results of kidney transplant, the blood group of the receiver and the donor (healthy) must be the same. The success rate is 90 per cent while the cross-blood group kidney transplant is costlier and success rate is almost 70 per cent, said experts from a Ludhiana-based SPS Apollo Hospital.

The experts comprising Dr Vikas Kumar, Dr Rahul Kohli and Dr Bakshish Singh of the hospital were in the city during an awareness programme on safer and comprehensive solid organ transplant programme, here today.

While interacting with mediapersons, the experts said rejection rate in the process was just 5 per cent and no case of table rejection had come to light in the past.

They stressed on the need to promote organ donation in this part of the country as the donations have picked up in the southern states at a large scale and have saved many lives, the experts said.
