Teachers irked over delay in remuneration
Our Correspondent

Nawanshahr, October 15
As many as 53 school teachers, who had performed the duty as supervisor for conducting the ‘Socio Economic and Caste Census’ (SECC) in 2011, are sore over the dilly-dallying attitude of the District Rural Development and Panchayat Department, as they are yet to receive their remuneration.

Ironically, the enumerators and the data entry operators deputed for the SECC have already been paid their remuneration.

Enumeration work was started in October 2011 and was completed in the end of the year. During enumeration, the supervisors conducted random checking and then in March 2012, supervisors were asked to conduct door to door verification of 10 per cent of the data collected by the enumerators.

Again, in August 2012, supervisors were asked to verify 10 per cent data as per some new software. Enumerators and data entry operators were paid their remuneration by this time.

The supervisors alone, without the help of enumerators or data entry operators verified the data within the given time.

In February 2013, supervisors were given printouts of their entire wards (which consisted of around 15,000 persons each) and were asked to correct the wrong entries if any. Supervisors demanded the assistance of enumerators but were denied as the enumerators had already been relieved after paying them their due remuneration. Supervisors were given only a week's time to check the entire data and they did so.

Then it was declared that the census work is completed. The supervisors demanded their remuneration and were told that their bills have been submitted and they would soon get their remuneration, but in vain.

“Even, repeated requests to the ADC and District Development and Panchayat Officer have proved futile. So far, we have merely been receiving hollow promises,” rued the affected teachers while urging the concerned higher officials to provide them justice.
