The UT Administration is violating the reciprocal transport agreement signed with Punjab. The agreement inked during the tenure of former Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen SF Rodrigues (retd) facilitated legitimate run of integral air-conditioned buses owned by political bigwigs of Punjab to Chandigarh.

Complete construction or face action, UT warns plot owners
Chandigarh, October 17
The UT Administration has directed the converted plot owners in Industrial Area, Phase 1 and II, to complete construction on vacant plots or face action. This decision will affect around 90 plot owners who have applied under the conversion scheme.

Respite for P’kula residents
Panchkula, October 17
In a relief for residential property owners in Panchkula, the state government has slashed property tax by over 90 per cent. For the industrial institutions, the tax has been reduced by 75 per cent.

Travel by AC chair car to cost more
Chandigarh, October 17
Following the revision of railway fares, those travelling by air-conditioned chair car from the city will have to shell out more. Passengers travelling by AC chair car will have to pay Rs 30 to 45 more while the executive class fare will vary from Rs 5 to Rs 25.

Jolt to Central Govt: PGIMER mulls shutdown of Jan Aushadhi Centre
Chandigarh, October 17
In what came as a jolt to the Central Government, the PGI is contemplating shutting down Jan Aushadhi Centre on its premises. The centre at the PGI's new shopping complex is likely to face closure as the PGI Administration is learnt to have written to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, recently, for allowing its closure.

Sufi singer Satinder Sartaaj performed at the Tagore Theatre in Sector 18 here this evening during an event to raise funds for the Rani Breast Cancer Trust. The Trust has been creating awareness about breast cancer among the masses.
The auditorium was jam-packed where the audience fully enjoyed the performance of the singer. His famous song ‘Sai Ve’ won instant applaud from the audience.

The Congress MLA, Jagmohan Singh Kang, and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu along with party workers held a protest against the imposition of property tax at Kharar today. Members of various social, business and residents’ associations protested against the imposition of property tax.

Court pulls up prosecution
Panchkula, October 17
The court today pulled up the prosecution for not coming prepared during a hearing of the Jyoti murder case. When the Judge asked the public prosecutor to show the evidence, the latter started looking for the same. Following which, the case was adjourned.

Rape on wheels: Another witness turns hostile
Chandigarh, October 17
Another witness in the infamous rape on wheels case involving former UT home secretary NK Jain as an accused turned hostile in the court today. Earlier also, two key witnesses in the case have turned hostile. During the resumed hearing of the case today, prosecution witness Manoj Guzara turned hostile.

2 acquitted in robbery case
Panchkula, October 17
The local court today acquitted two persons, accused of committing a robbery at Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 4, Panchkula, after holding a six-month-old infant hostage at knifepoint on December 31, last year.

Former SP acquitted in suicide case
Mohali, October 17
The court today acquitted Mohan Lal, the then Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Batala, in connection with the Lovepreet Kaur suicide case. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Parminder Pal Singh, pronounced the verdict after the father of the deceased, Lakhwinder Singh, uncle Baljinder Singh and sarpanch Budha Singh turned hostile.

Registration certificate suspended

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Rajnish K Sharma, suspended the registration certificate (RC) of a Mohali resident, Gursimran Singh, who was challaned thrice for drunk driving. Yesterday too, the court suspended the driver's licence of a Sector 32 resident.
