Doon covered under Crime, Criminal Tracking Network Systems project
Dehradun, September 13 It is to be noted that 19 police stations, falling within the jurisdiction of Dehradun district, have been integrated with the CCTNS, which is an ambitious mission mode project of the Government of India and aims at automating network police stations across the country to facilitate sharing of data, including that of criminals. Ten-year case details between 2003-2013 booked in 19 police stations is being digitised under the CCTNS project, the main server being located at New Delhi and recovery centre at Pune. NIIT is implementing the CCTNS project in the state and digitisation project is also being carried out by NIIT. The Tribune has learnt that as of now, more than 57,000 GDs and approximately 380 FIRs registered in district police stations have already been put online under CCTNS project. Police constables are being imparted training for handling the software and constables have also undergone training on Mangal Hindi fonts at State Crime Records Bureau under the CCTNS. Jaya Baloni, Circle Officer, Mussoorie, who is coordinating the implementation of CCTNS in the district, told The Tribune: “All 19 police stations in the district were officially declared ‘go live’ on July 1 and the digitisation work of old crime record is going on at present.” However, lack of IT infrastructure in Dehradun police stations is being regarded as the main stumbling block in the success of this project. The Tribune has learnt money has been allotted to NIIT by the Union Home Ministry for placing new infrastructure in the police stations, which will be a must
for the success of CCTNS project. Meanwhile, lack of generator sets and uninterrupted broadband line are the main problems in some police stations at present such as Vikasnagar police station and Sahaspur. Even DIG (Garhwal), Amit Sinha, who has been associated with the implementation of CCTNS project in the whole state, told The Tribune that it will take a few more months for the project to be fully operational. It must be mentioned here that Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar are the two districts out to 13 districts in the state where the CCTNS project has been started on pilot basis. |
