New Delhi, May 16 ''During the inspection some local miscreants tried to prevent our officials form doing their job. The officials, including senior officials, were manhandled and physically abused. They were also forced to re-connect the disconnected cables'', said a senior BRPL official. It had booked five cases of power-theft cumulatively stealing of around 35 KW in the area. "A person whose meter was removed for outstanding dues of nearly Rs 69,000 tried to intimidate our officials. We managed to lodge complaints against him at the Jamia Nagar police station," he said. Though police came to the spot and tried to control the situation, it was met with limited success due to the presence of a large unruly crowd. "A section of the crowd abused and slapped the officials. Efforts of our enforcement teams to check the irregularities and contain power-theft have been routinely thwarted by the residents," said the officials. |
Women's helpline receives two lakh calls
New Delhi, May 16 The meeting was attended by officials of the Delhi police, Delhi Commission for Women and the state health department. They were instructed to hold regular meetings to discuss the cases handled by them after every two months. The helpline was launched by the state government on January 1 in the wake of December 16 gangrape incident. Around two lakh calls have been received till now, of which 86 per cent were responded efficiently. Senior government officials said that victims have complained of not getting immediate response from the police. "Many victims call us instead of the police, may be because they don't have much trust on them," said the official. |
Water supply to be hit in E. Delhi
New Delhi, May 16 The water supply was affected due to repairing work in upper Gang Canal and Bhagirathi near Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh. An official of the DJB said that breach was noticed in the canal near Khatauli. It was noticed by the Irrigation Department, UP, which is responsible for maintaining the canal system in UP. It has taken up the repair work. The department concerned has assured the DJB that the repairs will be carried out on war-footing. |
