Girl shot dead by distant relative
New Delhi, May 10 The accused identified as Subhash is a distant nephew of the victim’s father, Pritam Singh. Subhash is a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and is at large. The police have deployed their teams to search for him. The victim is identified as Sakhi Singh, alias Pinki, who is a class 12 student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in sector-5 R K Puram. She was shot dead at point-blank range inside her house at Budh Vihar in Munirka Village opposite the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) gate at about 10.45 am. During the incident, the victim’s two aunts were also present in the house. Her father, Pritam Singh, works as a plumber at JNU. Her mother, Rani Singh, works as a cook at a hostel canteen in the university. Subhash entered the house through the main door and went to Sakhi’s room. After a conversation, he shot her and walked out of the house. The police say that the accused was obsessed with the victim. “It was a one-sided love,” said a police officer. |
Most chemist shops keep off token strike
New Delhi, May 10 Chemist shop owners near hospitals, such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, too refrained from participating in the token strike called by the said body, affiliated to the apex All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD). Several chemists in diferrent areas such as Lajpat Nagar, Jasola, Defence Colony and Kidwai Nagar, said, “The protest is on but we have not joined the strike.” The protest was to express resentment against the Central government’s proposed changes in the Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013 and its impact on traders. “Considering the rising operational costs, no reduction in trade margins should be made as proposed in the new drug policy and prosecution of pharmacists till his guilt is proved, thus provide relief under section 19 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940,” said Sandeep Nangia, RDCA president. |

Woman commits suicide at Katwaria Sarai
New Delhi, May 10 The deceased identified as Neelam, belonged to Uttar Pradesh. She lived alone at rented accommodation and was preparing for a competitive exam of a bank probationary officer. The matter came to light after Neelam’s neigbours complained to her landlord about a foul smell emanating from her house. Her main door was bolted from the inside. A call was made to the police at about 12.50 pm today. “The police broke open the door and found her hanging from a ceiling fan,” said a police officer. Due to the foul smell, it is possible that she may have committed suicide a few days ago, according to the police. |
Unauthorised colonies to get facilities, says SDMC Mayor
New Delhi, May 10 Choudhary said that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will provide civic facilities like sanitation, roads, dhalao-ghar schools on priority basis. The layout plan for unauthorised colonies will be prepared this year. “We have already prepared layout plans for four colonies,” she said. The Mayor said that there are 86 rural and 115 urbanised villages under the SDMC. “In the coming year, we will develop all these villages and provide them with facilities like streetlights, proper drainage system, parks and better health services. |

Five-yr-old rape victim discharged
New Delhi, May 10 She was taken to YWCA Hostel where her family complained that due to the restriction in the hostel to male members of the family, including her father, the child might feel desolated all over again. However, the doctors said she was completely fine and was fit to be discharged. “The girl was discharged in the afternoon. Doctors had a detailed deliberation on her improvement. She was found fit to be discharged. Reconstructive surgery to repair the private parts will be conducted in a phased manner over a period of next two to three months,” said DK Sharma the Medical Superintendent of the hospital. Sharma said the girl is taking normal food and is able to talk. But she cannot pass urine or stool through natural process. “We had to perform colostomy to create an artificial opening to the exterior of the abdomen for passing stool,” he added. |
