Patient dies even as Safdarjung strike called off
New Delhi, May 15 However, a 22-year-old woman Yasmeen from Jasola, who was brought to the emergency with diarrhoeal symptoms at 7:30 in the morning, died this afternoon. The patient's family complained about lack of timely medical attention. Her brother Shaahnawaaz said, "She was down with diarrhea and mild fever. We admitted her to hospital in the morning and till afternoon, there was not a single doctor to attend to her. Later, I found her unconscious on bed and when I saw again, she was dead at around 1:30 pm." On the other hand, the SH Medical Superintendent Dr BD Athani said that the strike was never complete. "Seventy per cent of the doctors were at work. So attributing the patient's death to lack of medical care or directly to strike may not be correct. The patient is learnt to have cardiac problems and doctors were there in cardiology," he said. There was some respite after the SRs and JRs called off strike at around 3:30. After a long meeting with authorities concerned, a representative of SH Resident Doctors' Association Dr Shailendra said, "We had only one major issue to discuss with the health secretary, ie on accommodation for resident doctors. Our minor issues were sorted out on Monday. Today we were assured that in the undergraduate block, resident doctors will be accommodated and more lands will be seen for further hostels." Until then, the government promised that the hostel for married residents at East Kidwai Nagar will not be demolished, he said. Dr Athani said, "There is a tentative plan for arranging accommodation by hiring apartments, if feasible, in the vicinity of the hospital." |
Govt hospital CMO held for rape
New Delhi, May 15 The accused is named Dr Narendra, who is the CMO of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, located in Shastri Park. The victim had met Narendra at the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound, according to the police. "He took her to Bansal Nursing Home, which is an ultrasound clinic, located near the hospital. At the clinic, he gave her a drink laced with sedatives and then raped her," said a police official. The police were informed about the matter about 6.30 pm yesterday. A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc. with intent to commit an offence) of the IPC has been registered at the Seelampur police station. Narendra was arrested early this morning. The police learnt that the woman had earlier come to him on May 7, 9 and 14 for the treatment as she had been having a stomach ache. The police are trying to ascertain the role of Gyanendra, who is the owner of the clinic. He is at large. In another incident, a 22-year-old man allegedly attempted to rape a 19-year-old girl, who is his neighbour in Rohini. The accused, a labourer, has been arrested. A police official said that last night he entered the girl's house and allegedly attempted to rape her. "She started shouting and her family upon hearing her cries came to her and caught the accused," said the official. After a medical examination, a case of an attempt to rape has been registered. |
Lokayukta issues notice to CM on posters
New Delhi, May 15 "Let notices show cause as to why an inquiry be not conducted against the said public functionaries for alleged violation of the provisions of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, and Delhi Lokayukta and Uplokayukta Act, 1995," the Lokayukta said. Director of Nispaksh, an NGO, S.K. Saxena had complained to the ombudsman over posters, banners and hoardings put up by the workers of political parties and public functionaries. Saxena had submitted a list of 14 councillors and eight legislators, including Dikshit and Goswami. "From the perusal of the documents and material placed on record, it is seen that the 'public functionaries' concerned, i.e. councillors and MLAs, have prima facie contravened the provisions of Sub Section 2 of Section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007," Sarin stated. He said the political parties were claiming to develop Delhi into a 'first-class metropolis' or a 'world-class city'. However, they were reluctant to impose self-regulation in the matter of putting up boards, hoardings and banners, he added. |
