26 locker holders submit details
Jalandhar, January 21 While both bank and police officials remained tight-lipped about the extent of the loss even after the submission of estimates by locker holders, sources said the loss was estimated to be running into several crores. When questioned on the matter, bank general manager Ashok Kapoor said, “So far it is difficult to provide an estimate because many people have provided very rough details, like they had a bracelet or a kara, without providing the weight of the gold item.” However, given the fact that many of the locker-holders were NRIs and many of them had gold items (running from 10 to 25 tolas) and had cash in their lockers, the loss is estimated to be substantial. While many of the people also had to come to collect their passports (20 to 21 had been left behind by the thieves) and papers, Kapoor said about 80 per cent of the locker holders had already collected their passports or papers from the bank. Bank PRO Malkiat Singh Multani said 10 passports were still lying with
the bank. The bank has also shot off letters to all locker holders so that remaining people may also provide their locker details and collect their passports/papers left behind by the thieves. Meanwhile, a CCTV camera was finally installed at Punjab and Sind Bank, Reru Chowk, today. The bank authorities confirmed that a new door of the strong room had also been put up. While the main door of the bank is yet to be fixed, until that is done, five security guards shall be on duty at the bank day and night. Speaking about compensating the affected locker holders, the bank authorities said a decision in this regard would be taken by the board of directors of the bank. Commenting on the progress of investigations, ADCP Naresh Dogra said raids in various cities like Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Pathankot were being conducted with regard to the case. The work to check the CCTV footage of cameras was also on, he added. The police had so far rounded up 12 to 20 people to look into the progress of the case. Meanwhile, in the wake of the Friday night robbery at the Punjab and Sind Bank, the police administration today held a meeting with various bank officials, telling them to step up security arrangements in their respective banks. At the meeting held by DCP Sarabjit Singh, the bank administrations were asked to deploy security guards at night, instal CCTV cameras and lights outside the bank premises. Notably, even a night after the incident at the bank, many bank premises across the city were found without any personnel to guard them at night. The police authorities also directed the banks to keep guards trained to handle guns. DCP Sarabjit Singh said a week’s time had been given to the banks to ensure proper security arrangements in their respective
organisations. |

The total recoverable amount by the North Zone of the PSPCL is close to Rs 21.55 crore as dues worth Rs 10.9 crore are
pending from Hoshiarpur and Rs 4.69 crore from Nawanshahr. SS Sarna, Chief Engineer (Distribution North Zone), said he was certain that most of this amount would be received before March 31 as departments would get their annual funds. “There is no risk factor involved from departments as the money would come to us sooner or later. Poor response to Punjab Urban Development Authority auction
Jalandhar, January 21 A booth measuring 39.37 sq m in Chhoti Baradari, Phase-II, the reserve price of which was Rs 1,35,790 per sq m went for Rs 1,36,450 per sq m. A shop-cum-office in the same locality, too, got sold for Rs 1,61,000 per sq m. Its reserve price was 1,42,920 per sq m. While the first property was taken by an NRI from Dasuya, the second was taken by a resident of JP Nagar here. The new commercial hub which PUDA intends to develop on Kapurthala Road received a nil response. The auction for 10 SCOs in the Canal Rest House area, falling on the road, had no bidders perhaps owing to the ongoing slowdown in property. The reserve price of the commercial property in 150 sq m area ranged between Rs 1,62,679 per sq m to Rs 1,78,947 per m. There also was a nil response to the 21 residential plots at Bulandpur Enclave falling near the Pathankot bypass. The reserve price for the plots measuring 83 sq m to 209 sq m area ranged between Rs 10,885 per sq m to Rs 12,592 per sq m. Sarojini Gautam Sharda, ACA, attributed the poor response to the general slump in property business. |
