Process on to levy property tax

The Director, Local Government, Punjab, Priyank Bharti today set in motion the exercise to levy property tax on residential properties in the city as per the provisions of the ordinance issued by the Punjab Government and later approved by the Punjab Assembly.

Annoyed over the failure of the municipal corporation to concede their pending demands, the Municipal Workers Unions, affiliated to Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, announced that if the indifferent attitude of the civic administration continued, the workers would hold a gate rally on January 24, submit another charter of demands and at the same time commence indefinite dharna by a batch of five workers every day.
Software industry will continue to get tax benefit: Board
Ludhiana, January 21
As per a recent circular issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, domestic and overseas software developers will continue to get tax benefit under the Income Tax Act.
It clarified that the software industry would continue to get tax benefits for the on-site development of software, deployment of manpower abroad and transfer of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) from one unit to another, among others.
Two more test positive for swine flu

Two more patients have tested positive for swine flu. They are undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. District epidemiologist Dr Anil Verma said, "One of the patients is from Jaiton, while the other one is from Barnala."

3 held with 30 mobiles

With the arrest of three persons, the police has claimed to have busted Harry gang and recovered 30 mobiles phones and three stolen motorcycles from their possession.
The accused, identified as Jasdeep Singh, alias Harry, Ravi Kumar and Varinder Kumar were nabbed during a naka at the Brindaban road.
