Jiya’s kidnapper gets life term

The court today awarded life imprisonment to Ravinder Gill, who had kidnapped a girl Jiya from her residence in Sector 7 here in 2009. Jiya was two-and-a-half-years old at the time of the incident. The court said the police had helped the accused and the investigations done by it were shoddy.

External probe committee fails to fix responsibility for delay

Education Dept talks tough on conversion of seats

The UT Education Department talked tough as far as vacant seats under the RTE Act are concerned for the next academic session. In its written reply, the Education Department clarified that the schools would not be allowed to convert their unoccupied reserved seats under the RTE Act into the general category before April 15.

Appointment of 66 teachers put on hold
Chandigarh, January 21
The UT Education Department has put on hold the appointment of 48 Junior Basic Teachers
(JBTs) and 18 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) under the OBC category. The department is awaiting a clarification on some backward castes, which are doubtful for the entitlement under the OBC reservation. The recruitment process of other categories is on.
