Repoll held at 11 booths in Haryana Chandigarh, May 12 The Chief Electoral Officer, Mrs Urvashi Gulati, said the maximum of 86.44 per cent polling was recorded at the Sapankheri polling booth in Kurukshetra. In Faridabad, it was 68 per cent at Kotla and 49.37 per cent at Ghaghas. The Khadri booth of Ambala recorded 85.2 per cent of polling. In Sonepat, while Rasoi recorded 76 per cent, the Baroda Mor booth reported 69.30 per cent. In the case of Bhiwani, the polling was 76.20 per cent at the Bamla polling booth No. 87, 78.83 per cent at the Bamla booth No. 90, 66.29 per cent at the Bhiwani booth No. 4, 82.96 per cent at Malwas Kohar and 73 per cent at the Salemgarh booth. Mrs Gulati said counting would start at 90 counting centres at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The counting would be done for each Assembly segment separately. All persons entering the counting halls would be subject to security check at the entrance. No one would be allowed to carry matchboxes, cigarettes, lighters, blades, knives or any kind of liquid inside the hall. No mobile phones, pagers or wireless sets would be allowed inside the halls. In order to meet any eventuality, Fire-engines had also been requisitioned for deployment outside the counting halls. |
85 pc polling at Khadri booth Ambala, May 12 About 85 per cent polling was reported at the booth, which falls within the Chacrauli Assembly segment. There are 1003 voters in
Khadri. Polling had to be conducted again at Khadri since the electronic voting machine, which was used on May 10, had developed a snag.

heavyweights busy Chandigarh, May 12 Mr Ajay Chautala (INLD), Mr Surinder Singh (Haryana Vikas Party) and Mr Kuldeep Bishnoi (Congress) endeavoured to get the maximum votes during the
repolling. Tuesday too was a busy day for the Bhiwani trio. Mr Surinder Singh went to Rohtak to see two HVP supporters at the PGIMS, Rohtak, who were injured in poll violence Mr Kuldeep Bishnoi went to the PGIMS, Rohtak, yesterday to see former MLA Dharampal Sangwan, who too was injured in poll-related violence at Dadri. The repolling in five Bhiwani booths kept Mr Ajay Chautala too busy yesterday. Younger brother Abhey, however, said he slept the whole day yesterday. Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress candidate from Rohtak, spent Tuesday relaxing. After an extended afternoon siesta he met some old friends in the evening and attended a wedding. In the morning, he met members of the Rohtak Bar of which Mr Hooda is still member. Arrangements for counting complete Sirsa, May 12 A Media centre had been set up at each centre and the assistant returning officer would submit a report to the district returning officer at the mini secretariat. Karnal: The district administration has made all arrangements for counting of votes in the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency. Six centres representing different Assembly segments, have been established at Karnal and three centres in Panipat. Mr R.S. Doon, Returning Officer-cum-District Magistrate, said the counting of votes would begin at 8.00 a.m. The district administration had banned pan, gutka, smoking and mobile phones at the centres, he said. Prohibitory orders had also been issued under Section 144 within the 200 m radius of the centres. He said that vehicle passes had been issued only to the candidates and their polling agents, besides staff appointed for counting. For mediapersons, a separate media centre had been established, he added. |
Arrangements completed for counting of votes Ambala, May 12 According to District Returning Officer
H.S. Malik, the votes of Sadhora, Chichroli and Jagadhri Assembly segments will be counted in Jagadhri, whereas the counting of
Mulana, Naggal and Ambala Cantonment will take place at Ambala Cantonment. The arrangement of counting of Ambala City segment votes has been made at Women Polytechnic in Ambala City. Similarly, the counting of the Kalka Assembly segment will take place in Panchkula. The counting arrangement of Naraingarh has been made at the community centre in Naraingarh. The results of all nine-Assembly segments will be compiled in the office of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Returning Officer, where the information of round-wise counting will be available. The result of the Ambala parliamentary seat is expected to be announced by noon. A media centre has also been set up in the Public Relation Office at Ambala City. According to the

BSNL to provide poll results Ambala, May 12 The results will be provided from 8 a.m. to midnight on both days on its cell service. A brief summary of election results will be displayed and refreshed every 10 minutes. Any BSNL cell user can see the results onscreen by making the cell broadcast facility “On” in the handset. The service is free of cost, a press note said. For landline users, the BSNL will provide latest counting results on the IVRS by dialling 1250109 (for Gurgaon customers) and 95124-1250109 (for rest of Haryana). Normal call charges will be applicable. |
Victims of poll violence made to leave hospital Rohtak, May 12 They included a former legislator, Mr Dharam Pal Sangwan, who had been injured at Dadri during polling. He had been admitted to a special ward here but was told to vacate the room after it was mysteriously allotted to another patient. When his supporters refused to budge, employees requested him to leave the hospital for their sake. Though Mr Sangwan was not available, his family members said he had to undergo all tests again in another hospital as he was not even given his file by the hospital authorities. Some injured BJP workers too were similarly discharged. The BJP nominee, Capt Abhimanyu Singh, and a local party leader, Mr Munish Grover resisted the directives but the patients were discharged |
Canal breach washes away portion of
Hisar, May 12 About 100 feet portion of the Hisar-Delhi road was washed away and the traffic on this route had been suspended till this morning. All vehicles were diverted to the Hisar-Delhi bypass, the police said. The district authorities along with officials of the Canal Department were making efforts to plug the breach after the closure of the canal near the Ralji head. Commissioner Hisar division, P.K. Dass and Deputy Commissioner Deepti Umashankar along with officers of the Canal Department visited the spot in the night and inspected the works. The farmers living in the area alleged that embankments of the Balsamand canal had become weak and the authorities had failed to strengthen them inspite of repeated complaints. The residents of Basant Colony, Tower Colony and other colonies located in the affected area had been shifted to safer places.

Ravinder, Priyanka top in matric examination Bhiwani, May 12 Stating this here today, a spokesman for the board said Ravinder, a student of SM Hindu Senior Secondary School, Sonepat (roll No.905744), and Priyanka of Rawal Public Senior Secondary School, Ballabgarh (roll No.244815), had stood first in the examination in the State. He said Bhupinder Kumar (roll No.273907) of Jiwan Jyoti Public High School, Palwal and Pradeep Kumar (roll No.905743) of SM Hindu Senior Secondary School, Sonepat, had stood second by scoring 575 marks each. Ankita Arora, (roll No. 484184), of Arya Senior Secondary School, Narwana, has secured the third position. She scored 573 marks. The spokesman said it was evident from the results that the steps taken by the board to improve the quality of education had yielded results. The merit list had improved by four times as a result of an improved evaluation system and check on the menace of copying and use of unfair means in the examination. Against 1,296 students in the merit list last year, the number had increased to 4,467 this year. He said that the maximum number of 473 students in the merit list were from Faridabad district and the lowest number of 28 students was from Panchkula. He said two students of government schools were ranked jointly at the 17th place in the merit list. The government high schools, where all students were declared pass included Saphera in Ambala district, Bdhani in Jhajjar district, Bhaprouli in Mahendragarh district and Bubca in Yamunanagar district. The number of students who scored 100 per cent marks in many subjects was more as compared to last year. Their number had increased from 66 last year to 213 this year. |
Vikas Taneja is dist topper in matric exam Ambala, May 12 According to the Principal of the school, Mr Muni Lal Bansal, Vikas Taneja, secured 556 marks out of 600 in the examination and achieved first position in the district. Tarunesh Kumar secured the second position in the district by securing 546 marks. Another student of this school, Tuhin Gupta secured 544 marks in the examination. He said 34 students of the school were placed in the merit list and the pass percentage was 94. |
Haryana matric result out Panchkula, May 12 According to information received here, the pass
percentage for government schools was 45.08 as compared to the board's
55.44. However, private schools fared better with a pass percentage of
73.75. Sources said government high schools had recorded one of the
poorest results in recent history. A school in Koti recorded nil
result as all four students had failed. The performance of Garhi
Kotaha, where only six of the 104 students passed, was no better.
Similar was the case with Baldwala school where only one of the 14
students could clear the exam. However, government senior secondary
schools put up a slightly better show. The best performance was
recorded by the government school at Karanpur, which showed a result
of 91 per cent. The worst performer was the Ramgarh school with 20 per
cent result. Sapna, a student of Jainendra Public School, Sector 1,
stood first in the district with 545 marks out of 600. Meanwhile,
the District Education Officer(DEO), Ms Phool Khatri, blamed the poor
results on the large of vacancies in schools. Moreover, in the wake of
the school board getting tough on the issue of coping, a large number
of the students could not get pass marks. |
93.88 pc students of GRSD School clear Ambala, May 12 This was stated by the School Principal, Mr S. Kashyap, here today. Mr Kashyap said 409 students took matriculation exam, out of which 384 students passed. While 29 students secured more than 79 per cent marks, 62 students secured more than 70 per cent. The number of students securing first division was 142. The toppers of the school included Varun Kumar, who scored 89.9 per cent marks, while Peeyush Sharma got 87 per cent marks and Jatin Arora 86 per cent. Meanwhile, Ayush Aggarwal of Farookha Khalsa Senior Secondary School Ambala Cantt, stood first by scoring 541 out of 600 marks. As many as 170 students of the school took the examination, out of which 80 per cent passed it. |
Exams for PG classes from May 15 Sirsa, May 12 The Vice-Chancellor said to check the menace of copying, adequate steps had been taken. Secrecy of the question papers had been ensured besides constitution of flying squads. Dispelling the confusion about the entrance examination for the B. Pharma course, Dr Dahiya said a meeting of vice-chancellors of various universities of Haryana would be held at Kurukshetra tomorrow and all issues concerning the candidates would be discussed. The entrance test was being organised by Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. |
