Security beefed up in 70 counting centres
New Delhi, May 12
The Delhi Police along with other Central paramilitary forces have made elaborate security arrangements in 70 centres in the national Capital where the counting to the seven Lok Sabha constituencies will be held tomorrow. All the seven constituencies: New Delhi, South Delhi, Outer Delhi, East Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Delhi Sadar and Karol Bagh would be guarded heavily by the Rapid Action Force, the CRPF and the local police during the counting process and after the results also, said a senior police official.

Recover phone, water dues from MPs: High Court
New Delhi, May 12
The Delhi High Court today asked the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats to ensure recovery of crores of rupees on account of telephone, water and electricity dues from the sitting and former Members of Parliament from their salary and pension as per rules.

Two more Central observers for ‘sensitive’ Sonepat

The Election Commission of India has appointed two more Central observers, one from Nagaland and another from Tripura to monitor the counting of votes in the Sonepat Parliamentary constituency of Haryana which has been declared sensitive.

17 arrested for Loni violence

Ghaziabad, May 12
Seventeen persons have been arrested on a report filed by a police inspector, injured in a stone-pelting incident by BSP supporters in Behta Hajipur polling centre in the evening on May 10. While the condition of the inspector and other policemen is stable, the condition of a woman injured in police firing is stated to be serious in SGTB Hospital.

EC orders FIR against Krishna Malik

Sonepat, May 12
The Election Commission of India has ordered the filing of an FIR with the police against Mrs Krishna Malik, a candidate of ruling Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) from Sonepat Parliamentary constituency and wife of the DGP Haryana, Mr M S Malik, for distributing ‘bindis’ and some garments among the electorate before the polling.

Like the adverse sex ratio, the percentage of the women voters who came out to poll in this Lok Sabha constituency on Monday was also low.

459 staff for counting votes
Faridabad, May 12
A staff of over 459 persons has been deputed for counting votes in this constituency. The counting will begin from 7 am onwards tomorrow at various centres here.

Crime unabated in Greater Noida
Noida, May 12
Despite the GB Nagar district having been scrapped, criminal activities have increased in Greater Noida. Individual criminals and criminal gangs are actively operating in this area. After the GB Nagar district was scrapped by the Samajwadi Party government in UP, half of the area falling in Noida was transferred to Bulandshahar district whereas the other half got merged with Ghaziabad. The boundary of both the districts falls in Greater Noida.
