The Delhi Jal board is struggling to clean the Yamuna water after the festive season, as the raw water taken from the river at various treatment plants is coming polluted with heaps of flowers and religious offerings.

The river is the major source of raw water for the city and any sort of pollutant has an adverse effect on the raw water intake through the river.

"It has been seen that post-festive season, a large number of religious offerings and other objects are thrown in the Yamuna. Therefore, the raw water at various water treatment plants of the board had heaps of garbage and other religious things in it, which had to be cleaned before processing it for treatment in the plant," said a DJB senior official.

The board has appealed to all the citizens not to throw any religious offering into the river as this has an adverse effect on the quality of water.

"The Delhi Jal Board earnestly appeals to all the citizens to contribute towards keeping the Yamuna clean and refrain from throwing any kind of material, religious or otherwise, into the river," said the senior official.
