10 booked for assault:
The police have booked a resident of Wazidpur village in Bassi Pathana along with nine unidentified persons for allegedly injuring Mandeep Singh of the same village. Victim Mandeep Singh of Wazidpur told the police that Davinder Singh and nine others assaulted him while he was returning home. He said the accused ran away after people started gathering there.

Blood donation camp:
DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Kotkapura, observed blood donation week to mark the 150th birth anniversary of saint, eminent educationist and renowned social reformer Mahatma Hansraj. In all, 151 units of blood were collected on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Tyyab was the chief guest.

Body found:The body of a 35-year-old man was found lying in a deserted area near a marriage palace along the Sangrur-Patiala road on Friday. The police said the deceased was Indresh of Bhagwanpura Manjhria in Uttar Pradesh. He had been doing plaster of Paris (PoP) work in a colony here. A case has been registered.

Man booked for fraud: The police booked Ashok Kukhreja, a resident of Sector 37, for allegedly embezzling funds of Sartaj Co-Opeartive Housing Building Society, Sector 40-C, to the tune of Rs 8 crore. Gurlal Singh, a resident of Dholewal, Fatehgarh Sahib, alleged that he committed fraud.

Fashion Olympiad at NIFT
: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will organise a two-day regional inter-collegiate competition, ‘NIFT-Fashion Olympiad-14’ at the NIFT campus in Kangra from November 21. The regional round of NFO for Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir will be held on November 21 and 22. Registrations for the same are open on the institute website sdac.kangra@nift.ac.in

Husband, in-laws booked
: The Sarkaghat police on Friday registered a case of cruelty and abetment to suicide against the in-laws of a woman after she allegedly committed suicide. In a complaint to the police, Lal Singh of Garyoh, tehsil Sarkaghat, said his daughter Sita Devi was married to Rakesh Kumar of Lagyar village. Her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law harassed her physically and mentally and demanded dowry. He said his daughter committed suicide yesterday due to regular harassment by her in-laws.

Students asked take part in sports: Exhorting school students to take part in sports and cultural activities along with studies, Excise and Taxation Minister Prakash Chaudhary said these activities not only improve mental and physical health, but also help in preserving the culture of the state. Speaking at the concluding function of the five-day cultural programmes at the Government Senior Secondary School, Rajgarh, he said sports and cultural activist provide numerous opportunities to the children for their future.

SJVNL profit rises
: SJVN Limited has recorded a 60.90 per cent increase in its profit after paying tax during the first half of FY 2014-15. The net profit of the company increased to Rs 1,221.07 crore from Rs 758.87 crore compared to the corresponding period last financial year, claimed SJVNL release here today.

Modi rally on November 30:Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Udhampur and address an election rally on November 30. Polling in the district will be held on December 2. The BJP has been working to accomplish Mission 44 Plus. Sources said Modi would address a rally in Udhampur on the last day of campaigning.

Darhal ex-MLA to join BJP: Puran Singh, former Independent MLA from Darhal and former Cabinet minister, has made up his mind to join the BJP. The Congress has decided to field Iqbal Malik. Puran Singh went to Jammu to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad and other senior leaders.

Rs 18.85 lakh recovered:The flying squad and the Kaalkot police have recovered Rs 18.85 lakh from three persons. They were identified as a Jammu and Kashmir Bank cashier, a Jammu trader and a Zonal Education Officer. The matter was brought in the notice of the District Election Officer.
