‘Education not only about getting jobs’
Haridwar, September 6 Dr Pranav Pandya, spiritual ideologue of Shantikunj Social Foundation, stated this at a function at Mrityunjay Auditorium at Dev Sanskriti University in Haridwar today. Addressing the gathering, Dr Pandya laid emphasis on gaining knowledge rather than only getting information. Dr Pandya said in this age of professional and job-oriented education, real education, which comprises both inner spiritual and outer knowledge, had taken a backseat. He added that the ‘guru-shishya’ mode of education and the values associated with it are being ignored, which doesn’t bode well for the education sector and the society as a whole. Stressing on the need for students to realise things related to inner conscience, soul, spirituality and capability within, Dr Pandya said the Indian mode of traditional, moral and value-based education system is still the best, which is why it is still being practiced by Dev Sanskriti University. Special invitee, District Magistrate D Senthyl Pendiyan said school and college life make for one of the best phases of life marked by acquisition of knowledge. Citing various inspirational instances from lives of noted personalities including his father, Pendiyan said without hard work, sincere efforts, integrity, dedication and honesty, one could not achieve long-term success. Dr Pandya said teachings of Pt Shri Ram Sharma Acharya, founder of Shantikunj, are still relevant as they are backed by years of honing of knowledge, skills and learning. Experts lauded the courage of students hailing from disaster-affected districts of Uttarakhand, saying they are real students as they brave odds, traverse on foot for several miles and still attain high percentages. Programme coordinators Gopal Sharma and Ghulam Ashkari Jaidi said the Dev Sanskriti University holds such interactions with various personalities on a regular basis. Students of Dev Sanskriti University performed yoga asanas and cultural dances on the occasion. |
