New Delhi, August 14
An 18-year-old girl and her nine-year-old brother were found murdered in their uncle's house in north-east Delhi's Karawal Nagar locality this morning. The police have registered a case under sections of murder and rape as the girl was found without clothes. "We have included the sections of sexual assault as the girl was found without her clothes. However, her postmortem report will only ascertain if she was raped," said a police officer, privy to the case.

The girl's was found lying on the floor of the house, while her brother, Amit was found dead on bed inside a room on the first floor of the house. They lived with their uncle, aunt and other relatives at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony of Karawal Nagar.

Their aunt discovered their bodies at about 6-30 a.m., after which the family informed the police about the incident.

"The victims' family told us that the door opposite the room where the siblings were found dead was locked from the outside and a cooler at their room's door was on," said the officer. This may have been a reason that no one could hear any noise, he added.

The victims' aunt told reporters that her daughter-in-law sleeps in the room opposite to where the siblings were found dead.

"In the morning, she called me to say that her room had been bolted from the outside. When I went up to open it, I checked on my nephew and niece's room as well and found them dead. My niece was lying on the floor and my nephew on bed. Their throats were slit and the blood on their bodies had dried," she said.

The police suspect that the incident took place at midnight, because of the dried blood on the bodies. They also found items scattered in the room and are looking for robbery as one of the motives behind the murders.

According to the officer , there is a possibility that someone barged into the house by coming from the terrace.

“We will soon find out the reason for the double murder,” said the officer, privy to the investigations.

Five-year-old molested by Class XII student
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 14
A five-year-old girl was molested allegedly by a Class XII student at a government school in north Delhi's Civil Lines on Wednesday afternoon. The girl identified the 18-year-old boy after the school authorities paraded some students in front of her for identification.

The incident took place at Ludlow Castle Number-4 School located at Shankaracharya Marg when the girl was waiting for her father to pick her up. The KG class girl attended the classes until 12.30 pm.

On Wednesday, most students left for home at 12.30 pm whereas this girl had to wait for her father. She waited with another classmate in her classroom.

In a nearby classroom for Class XII students, the teacher had not arrived because of which all the boys, except the accused and three-four others, left for the playground.

The boy was loitering around his classroom when he found the girl heading to the washroom. He managed to send away the other students in his class on some pretext and lured the girl inside. He then allegedly molested her.

Her father arrived a little late. The girl returned home and mentioned the incident to her mother who discussed it with her husband.

The couple then took the girl to the school and spoke to the principal. However, the girl did not know the boy's name. The victim, her father, the school principal then stood outside the classroom where the incident took place and asked the students to come out one after the other. When her molester appeared, she immediately identified him.

The police were informed and the accused was apprehended and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Probe Kathputli excesses by cops: AAP
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 14
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today condemned the alleged police excesses at Kathputli Colony in central Delhi on the night of August 12-13, demanding an independent probe into the matter.

The police had arrested 12 people, some of whom were allegedly injured in the clashes, the party said.

"If what the police say is true, that some residents of the colony got into a fight with outsiders, the AAP condemns those acts of violence as well and demands that the culprits should be identified and booked accordingly," said the Aam Aadmi Party.

Adding that isolated instances of violence by a few individuals cannot be an excuse for the police to 'brutally suppress' civil liberties and 'illegally detain and torture' residents of Kathputli Colony, the party said there are reports that false charges have been pressed against certain individuals to justify excessive and completely unjustified police action.

"False allegations arbitrarily laid against persons from Kathputli Colony, based on mere conjectures is an act of absolute apathy and injustice against the poor and disadvantaged," said the Aam Aadmi Party demanding an independent inquiry into the entire matter.

Party decries govt move on radio jockeys

The Aam Aadmi Party today attacked the Central government over its move on taking action against radio jockeys cracking jokes about MPs, saying the current government should learn from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was often mimicked.

Yet his stature in people's eyes was never lowered, but they rather loved him, said the party.

It said the move only displays the current government's intolerance towards criticism and is 'dangerous'.

"While comedy, mimicry and satire should have reasonable limits like free speech, nothing should be done to curtail it. Intolerance towards free speech of others is unacceptable," the party asserted.

According to the AAP, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar's statement in the Rajya Sabha today was 'misplaced' and a needless attempt to give a strange twist to curtailing comedy, satire and mimicry.

"It is an unnecessary exercise and against the freedom of speech and expression as a guaranteed right for the citizens. It is sad that the issue was ironically raised by Jaya Bachchan of the Samajwadi Party, a well-known and senior actress herself," the AAP said.

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 14
The Lieutenant Governor (LG), Najeeb Jung, today asked the health department to motivate people for donating organs and to launch awareness campaigns in the city. He administered pledge to the officers, doctors, staff members and general people to donate their organs and save lives at a function organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

"We must keep in mind that society is a larger family and our dearest is alive if the recipient is alive. One should feel proud of donating organs in the same manner as if one were celebrating a festival," he said.

Appreciating the efforts of the health department, he encouraged it to organize more such awareness programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sarin, Director, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), said that this campaign can be made successful by taking help of an on-line registration for donation. People should come forward to donate organs in a big way as it is done in western countries.

As part of the pledge, a film was also screened on the organ donation along with a puppet show and a Nukkad Natak.

In another function at Raj Niwas, 50 per cent of the staff, including senior officers and employees, took a pledge to donate their organs at the ILBS.
