Declare loadshedding schedule: LG to discoms
New Delhi, June 8 The power supply to malls will not be available after 10 pm and high mast halogen lamps in the streets will be switched off during the peak hours at night to conserve energy, said the LG. "Discoms are working out a schedule which will be shared with the public," said a senior government official. Government establishments, including Delhi Secretariat, universities, colleges, have been advised to switch off air conditioning between 3.30 and 4.30 pm. This does not include emergency services and critical institutions such as hospitals. "Efforts are being made to restore the damaged 220 KV Badarpur-Noida-Ghazipur line of UP Transmission Company Limited. Heat wave conditions have enhanced the electricity demand and further resulted in straining the already stressed transmission and distribution system. As a result, certain pockets in East Delhi, West Delhi and Central Delhi are more vulnerable to loadshedding. These include Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Ghazipur, Mayur Vihar, Geeta Colony, Daryaganj and walled city," said the official. Peak load conditions occur between 3 pm and 5 pm and then again from 10 pm to 1 am. "The government is aware of the hardships being faced by the people and continues to take steps to ease the situation. It appeals to the people to avoid agitational modes that often delay the restoration process," said Jung. Delhi was able to meet the peak demand of 5152 MW on June 7. However, the unrestricted demand was about 5600 MW, resulting in loadshedding of around 400 MW in several parts of the city. This was due to the system overloading and constraints because of the damage caused to three main 220 kV transmission lines of Delhi Transco Ltd last month. The 220 kV Mandodla-Gopalpur and Bamnauli-Pappankalan-I lines have been restored through the Emergency Restoration System (ERS). |
VIP areas get regular power supply: AAP
New Delhi, June 8 The AAP lashed out at the authorities lamenting that the VIP areas continue to get uninterrupted supply of electricity while the common man is suffering. "The long and unannounced power cuts, ranging from multiple hours to even days in some areas simply torture the people. The unending power cuts are also leading to water scarcity in many areas," said the party. Calling it an emergency situation, the party leaders maintained that the response of the Central government and the city administration so far has been quite disappointing. |

NSUI hunger strike continues
New Delhi, June 8 "Not a single university official attempted to have a discussion with the protestors. “This reflects the indifferent attitude of the university officials, particularly the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Singh," students said. They added that the clamour for withdrawing the programme is increasing day by day and since yesterday, three more students Upinder Godara, Guru Gopal Singh, Lokesh Chug have joined the hunger strike. |
Drive to promote grievance monitoring system soon
New Delhi, June 8 The PGMS portal is working at Delhi Secretariat for the redressal of people's grievances in a timebound manner. "Citizenry will be informed through the campaign that the PGMS has been established for redressal of complaints about the Delhi Police, Delhi Jal Board, corporations, power distribution companies like TPDDL, BSEs, Food and Supplies Departments and other departments working under the state government," said Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung. Through the campaign, people will also be informed about the gateway to register their grievances online. |
