VAT dept tightens noose on bogus dealers, evaders
New Delhi, June 4 The Commissioner, Trade and Taxes, Prashant Goel said that the enforcement branch of the department has conducted a number of raids in the city by constituting and deputing various inspection teams. Goel said that the department has requested the police stations of various areas to register FIRs against five dealers. Premises of nine bogus dealers have been sealed while registration certificates of 20 dealers cancelled. Besides, the details of the bank account of three dealers have been attached, he said. "The practice of evading VAT by bogus dealers has picked up for last many years. Under VAT system, the bogus dealers (dealers who take registration on wrong credentials and then disappear) issue fake tax invoices on the strength of which genuine dealers claim Input Tax Credit and thereby reduce their liability to pay VAT. Now, the VAT department has tightened its noose on bogus dealers," Goel said. During the last two years, the Trade and Taxes department has amended the return form and it has been made mandatory for the dealers to file the details of their sales and purchases online indicating the names of the corresponding dealers from whom the purchases are made and the corresponding amount. "With the help of system software and analysis of data, the Trade and Taxes department has now been able to identify various bogus dealers who are issuing fake tax invoices and not paying due tax," he said. Special teams were sent for survey of bogus dealers. During these surveys, four dealers were found non-existing and action was taken. Besides, nine dealers purchasing from bogus dealers were surveyed and their premises sealed, said Goel. He clarified that the raids would continue and the action against such bogus dealings would be intensified by the department. |
SOL students up in arms
New Delhi, June 4 The protestors, under the banner of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), resolved to take movement to the next level if the HRD Ministry and UGC fail to intervene. They raised slogans against the DU authorities for the proposed closure of undergraduate courses in SOL and their replacement with two-year certificate and diploma courses. The agitators blocked all the three gates of the office wanting to meet the officials concerned. Later, their delegation met the Deputy Secretary Ajay Kumar Khanduri and apprised him of their concerns about the matter. "It came as a surprise to us that the UGC was totally ignorant about the matter. The Deputy Secretary accepted the memorandum and assured us that he would forward it to the chairman of UGC," said representatives. |

New Delhi, June 4 Delhi Principal Secretary (Revenue) Dharm Pal said that the Revenue department has sanctioned an amount of Rs 27.50 lakh as ex gratia to the persons who suffered major or minor injuries in the dust storm. ABVP men 'thrash' AAP volunteers at Daulat Ram College
New Delhi, June 4 The incident apparently started from a conversation between the two groups, represented by ABVP's national secretary Rohit Chahal and coordinator of CYSS Anupam with the latter being hit by ABVP members following a verbal duel. After the incident, both the parties filed cross-FIRs at Maurice Nagar police station. It is understood that ABVP workers allegedly made repeated attempts to remove the helpdesk set up by the CYSS volunteers outside the college on North campus. It led to the scuffle between the helpdesk teams of both the sides. "We have been receiving calls from our volunteers manning helpdesks at colleges such as ARSD and Zakir Hussain that those with ABVP identity cards were snatching away the cards of our volunteers and abusing them and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal. Our coordinator had gone to discuss the issue with the ABVP members when they started hitting our volunteers at Daulat Ram," a CYSS volunteer Rahul Kumar said. On the other side, ABVP's national secretary Rohit Chahal claimed that the incident happened after provocation from CYSS volunteers and so they have filed an FIR. "AAP is in a way going down and so they are all doing it for media hype," he said. |
