New Delhi, May 26 This boy aspires to become a magistrate and even encourages poor parents in his locality to send their children to schools. He said, "I want to remove social evils." It was humiliation he suffered about two years ago at the hands of his former school's principal that gave him courage to stand up for his own rights and those of others. Recounting his recent achievement in saving a boy from drowning, he said, "We had gone to play cricket in Sangam Vihar and Anmol who lives in my neighbourhood had gone to catch the ball, but his leg slipped and he fell into a pond. I immediately asked my friends to inform his parents and jumped into the water and saved him." |

New Delhi, May 26 The bench was hearing a batch of petitions, including three appeals filed by TPDDL and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group firms, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. The discoms moved the larger bench of the court against its single judge's order of January 24 refusing to stall their CAG audit and asking them to "fully cooperate with the Comptroller and Auditor General in the audit process". Besides these pleas, the court is also hearing a PIL filed by NGO United RWAs Joint Action, seeking CAG audit of the discoms' accounts. The single judge bench, which did not stay the CAG audit, however, had said that the report of the audit will not be released without the court's permission. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the NGO, had said that a DERC audit of a discom had revealed massive fudging of accounts and the NGO had also sought action against those involved. The three private firms came into being in 2002 when the then Delhi government decided to privatise power distribution. SOL students decry 'diversion' of funds
New Delhi, May 26 "We are deeply appalled by the recent developments in the School Of Open Learning. Neither the teachers nor the students were consulted about the proposed diversion of SOL funds for creating study centres. It is being said that part of the money collected from the students will be given to principle of the college above their salary," said representatives of a Facebook Group-Delhi University SOL Students' Union. According to Rohit of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, apparently the varsity is contemplating using students' money to create centres on the allocated land that has been lying vacant in east Delhi and other centres. The infrastructure and building construction has to be based on the release of funds from the University Grants Commission and the money collected from the students should be used to provide immediate provisions to the students as it is done in the constituent regular colleges of Delhi University, he stressed. Over the last two years, the section has been raising the issue of disparity between correspondence and regular students but all their grievances have remained unaddressed and now there are talks of closure of academic courses (Honours courses) and starting vocational courses instead in School of Open Learning, said the affected students. |
