AAP MLA arrested for thrashing DJB junior engineer
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 23
Following judicial custody of Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP received second jolt today when its MLA from the Devli Assembly constituency Prakash Jarwal was arrested today and sent to judicial custody on charges of beating a government servant on duty and creating problem in the government project.

The police arrested the legislature on the basis of an FIR got lodged by the Delhi Jal Board alleging that the MLA had beaten up its junior engineer Arun Kumar when he was supervising boring of a tub-well in the area.

"We have arrested Jarwal for assaulting DJB engineer. The MLA has been booked under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code," said a police officer.

The DJB official had claimed that he was asked by one of the associates of the MLA over phone to stop the work as it had to be inaugurated by Jarwal.

However, the official carried on with the work as stopping it would have "indefinitely delayed" the boring of the tube-well, the officer said.

The official had also explained the matter to the MLA when he reached the spot but was allegedly assaulted by him.

The AAP MLA has, however, refuted the allegations and claimed that the DJB official had halted the work and also allegedly abused him when he questioned about it.

New Delhi, May 23
To intensify campaign against power theft, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have formed "vigilance" flying squads to unearth power theft during the night and early morning hours. A total of 12 flying squads, six each in BRPL and BYPL have been constituted in the last few days.

"These flying squads work in close coordination with the BSES enforcement teams. Each squad comprises around five-six persons depending on the area and heavily relies on analytics and physical verification to detect power theft. Besides an engineer, a flying squad also consists of linesmen," said BSES spokesperson.

Prior to their deployment to this role, the members of the flying squad undergo training in power theft detection and the use of analytics. The leads, which these squads generate, are passed on to BSES enforcement teams for follow-up action.

"As a result of their inputs, over 100 raids have been conducted during the night and early morning hours in the last few days. This has led to the detection of over 3,330 KW of power theft load, booking of over 750 cases. This quantum of power theft load unearthed is enough to power over 800 middle-class homes," said the official.

To protect the team from unscrupulous elements, many of the inspection teams are being accompanied by Delhi Police personnel.

Some of the areas where the inspection have recently been conducted include West Delhi: Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Jaffarpur, Najafgarh, Nangloi and Uttam Nagar, South Delhi: Mehrauli, Govindpuri, Ghitorn, Dakshinpuri, Tughlakabad, Munirka and Ayanagar, East and Central Delhi: Jhilmil Colony, Kalyanpuri, New Ashok Nagar, Gazipur Village, Trilokpuri, Raghubar Pura, Gandhi Nagar, Daryaganj, Chooriwalan Chandni Chowk, New Qasabpura Paharganj and Karawal Nagar.

With over 500 mass raids planned over the next three months, BRPL and BYPL have launched a massive crackdown on power theft. For increased effectiveness of the drive and to unearth power theft of various types, the raids are being carried out 24x7. To begin with, this campaign will continue for three months and over 150 areas will be targeted across South, West, East and Central Delhi.

Gifted kids running from pillar to post to find funds for good education
Parmindar Singh

Ghaziabad, May 23
Qazzafi Baig, a poor contract farmer, father of two prodigy children in Kaushalya village in Ghaziabad, is being made to run from pillar to post for getting scholarship approved for his national record holder children.

Baig, who takes some land on contract and cultivates it to make both ends meet, has been running around various officials, politicians, MPs, etc., who have all promised scholarships or monetary help so that he could provide good education to his brilliant wards.

His daughter Hifza Baig, 10, a student of Class V is recipient of National Children Award from the President, Pranab Mukherjee while his son Rashid Baig, 11, a student of Class VII in DPSGI School, Ghaziabad, a mathematical genius, holds Limca National Records for his extraordinary ability to multiply figures in a matter of seconds, without a paper and pen or the help of a computer.

The hapless father has of late faced a lot of harassment, even threats from his own people. He has become butt for their jokes and taunts. Even women in his village, including his own relatives, are taunting as to why he is bent on giving his children higher education and why did not he and his wife produce more children like every other couple in the village.Even PMO has written to the state government, under the Right to Information, but all this has only added to Gaig's worries.

The children have been photographed with a number of VIPs like the President, UP Chief Miniter, Rajnath Singh, Rahul Gandhi, UP Governor, etc., but no one came to their help.

Baig says when he approaches the Central government, his plea is referred to the UP government for necessary action and when he tries to contact the state government, his request is passed on to the Central government. Now, even his RTI pleas are not been replied to by the state government.

‘2 five-star hotels "fail" to comply with pollution control norms’

New Delhi, May 23
Acting tough, the Delhi government has ordered two five star hotels Imperial and Shangrila Eros to close their restaurants, kitchen and laundry units, for "failing" to comply with pollution control norms and asked the civic agencies to snap power and water supplies to them.

The punitive action against the two hotels are being taken as they failed to adhere to government's directive of implementing environment-friendly steps like water conservation and setting up of dedicated sewage treatment plant, said officials of the Delhi Environment Department.

In June last year, 32 five-star hotels had signed memorandum of understanding with the Delhi government expressing their commitment to comply with the 'Green Hotel Guidelines' under which they were to take specific steps to protect the environment and reduce water and energy consumption.

A senior official of Imperial Hotel said, "Installation of sewage treatment plant was delayed as the road outside the hotel was blocked because of the work by the Delhi Metro. We will comply with the government directives and temporary arrangements for handling wastes have been put in place."

However, officials of Shangrila Eros said they were not in a position to offer comment on the issue. — PTI

Kejriwal violates legal process to get media attention: Vardhan
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 23
Delhi BJP president Dr. Harsh Vardhan has said that in order to erase the memory of defeat of the AAP in the Lok Sabha elections and the resultant frustration Arvind Kejriwal has again violated legal process for getting the media attention. He said that Kejriwal's refusal to deposit bail bond shows that the AAP believes only in anarchy. It does not believe in the Constitution and judiciary.

He said that the double standard of this party has been exposed when it's another leader Yogender Yadav filled the personal bond on May 22 and avoided going to jail. On the other hand obstinate Kejriwal refused to fill the bail bond.

Kejriwal had refused on May 21 to fill personal bond of Rs 10,000 in the defamation case filed by Nitin Gadkari in Patiala House Court and preferred to go to jail. Today, when he was again presented in the court, he again refused to fill the bail bond. This is a clear case of contempt of court.

He said that the objective of the AAP is to spread anarchy and end rule of law. The BJP will never allow this party to succeed in its objective. It is a good sign that people of the country have recognized the anti-Indian intentions of the AAP. This is the reason why the AAP has been routed in the Lok Sabha election.
