Travel agent booked for fraud: A travel agent has been booked for duping Jagir Kaur of Pandori Rukman of Rs 7.5 lakh on the pretext of sending her daughter to Canada. The complainant alleged that Davinder Kaur of Piplanwala, didn't send her daughter to Canada and neither did she return the money.

Liquor vend opposed
: Residents of Atal Nagar on Rahon Road today protested against the opening of a liquor vend. This is the fourth vend that has opened in the area. A temple and a school are located near the vend. The residents have forwarded a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner.

Summer camps: During a summer camp at BBSB Convent School, Sidhwan Bet, children attended various workshops: yoga, personality development, painting, rangoli making and flower making. At Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar, students took part in fabric painting, glass painting and nail art besides learning music.

Migrant youth's body found:
The body of a migrant youth was found from a village pond in Bhaghana village nearby on Tuesday night. Kamal Chaudhary had gone missing on May 31 under mysterious circumstances. His colleagues, Sahib Muni and Muni of Bihar, have been booked. Victim's father Parkash Chaudhary had alleged the duo had murdered his son. The accused are still at large.

Bicycle rally:
To mark World Environment Day, NGO Sahara Foundation and the Kala Kendra, Sangrur, organised a bicycle rally from War Heroes Stadium to Baghi Khana on Wednesday. It was led by SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu. Sahara Foundation chairman Sarbjeet Singh Raikhy said the rally aimed at creating awareness among the masses about keeping the environment clean.

Nurpur
Man gets 6-month jail in extortion case
: Niranjan Singh, Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Indora, sentenced Bidhi Chand of Riyali village to six months' imprisonment and fined him for Rs 1,000 in an extortion case registered against him at Indora police station in November 2008. The police said the convict had stopped Darshan Singh of Riyali village, while he was on his way home, thrashed him and snatched his bicycle.
