Notice to MC staff for coming late
Jalandhar, March 21 All these employees, including 15 heads of the departments, were issued show-cause notices at the end of the day and were asked to explain the reason of their coming late to the office. Those found coming late were Senior Town Planner Tirlok Singh, SE B&R Kulwinder Singh, SE O&M PS Jaggi, XEN O&M Lakhwinder, XEN B&R Rajneesh Dogra, Deputy Controller Finance and Auditing Rajpal Singh and Ravinder Singh, Assistant Health Officers Varinder Kalia and Dr Harjinder Pal Singh, House Tax Superintendents Rajeev Rishi and Maheep Sareen, Property Tax Superintendent Maninder Kaur, Tehbazari Superintendent Vikrant Singh and Landscape Officer Daljit Singh. Joint Commissioner Gurmeet Singh took a round of all offices in the building and took note of those missing from their seats. He then took away their attendance registers with him and kept them in the office of the Superintendent Establishment. He then deputed his office staff near the entrance of the office, telling all the employees entering thereafter to first go to the office of Superintendent Establishment to mark their attendance. The JC said he found that many employees kept coming casually till 10:30 am or even 11 am. “I feel pity for the visitors who start pouring in for their work right at 9 am and keep waiting for officials for hours. To my utter surprise, even the SEs and XENs came so relaxed, not at all bothering to maintain any punctuality,” the PCS officer fumed. Gurmeet Singh said he would keep doing such checks in routine till the staff got into the habit of punctuality. He said in case the staff refused to fall in line, he might even issue orders for deducting their salaries. The JC added that he was planning to install a biometric attendance machine in the office. Interestingly, a similar exercise had been initiated by Mayor Sunil Jyoti as well when he had joined his office in September 2012. |
Newborn baby to get HIV status confirmed in three weeks
Jalandhar, March 21 “The baby was born through caesarean section and weighs 3.5 kg. We have given a single dose of navirapina to both mother and the child. Now the baby is under observation and will be given a single dose of the medicine everyday for six weeks,” confirmed Dr Sangeeta Kapoor, senior medical officer. She also said that since the HIV positive antibodies from the mother were present in the child till three weeks after the birth, the test to confirm the HIV status of the child would be performed only after that time. The baby is born to the HIV positive couple which already has a 12-year-old son. Since the couple was not aware of their HIV status, they planned to conceive again after the death of their second son, who died within a few hours of his birth. “We do not know how we contacted the virus, but two years ago, when my wife gave birth to our second son, she was given two bottles of blood by a private hospital in Phagwara,” said the father. He also said that they came to know about their HIV status only when the Civil Hospital authorities conducted the HIV test on his pregnant wife recently. Since the mother was not aware of her pregnancy till first four months, she had to undergo the caesearian section for the third time. “It was a big shock to us. Since we came to know about my pregnancy only in the 16th week, we could not abort the pregnancy. Although in the beginning we faced a lot of harassment from the hospital staff, as they were scare to even stand near me, the doctors, who operated upon me, were very supportive and informed me about all precautions to be taken after the baby’s birth. Now, I just wish my baby to be fine and free from the deadly virus,” said the mother. The hospital authorities are taking utmost care to keep the deadly virus away from the newborn child. Whether they succeed in giving a healthy life to the little baby is yet to be seen. |
