New Delhi, March 21
Harsh Vardhan, Meenakshi Lekhi, Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit, Ashutosh and Rakhi Birla were some of the leaders from the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party who filed nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi.

Delhi BJP president Vardhan filed nominations for the Chandni Chowk constituency where Union Minister Kapil Sibal and AAP's Ashutosh are other two contenders.

Vardhan was accompanied by a number of party activists. The BJP leader's assets have increased from Rs 1.7 crore to Rs 2.8 crore, which he declared during the filing of his nomination for the April 10 polls in Delhi.

Sandeep Dikshit, 49, Congress candidate from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency also submitted his nomination papers before the Returning Officer at Deputy Commissioner's office in East Delhi.

Dikshit faces a three-cornered contest in the constituency as BJP has fielded Maheish Girri while AAP's Rajmohan Gandhi is the other main contender.

"Though we lost the Delhi assembly elections, there is no loss of enthusiasm among party workers. We are confident of winning this time around as the so-called wave is over," said Dikshit after filing his papers.

In an apparent attack on AAP-led Delhi government, Dikshit said, "An illusion was created by making attractive promises and people thought of giving other parties a chance thinking their lives would be better. However, now the so-called wave is over."

On a question on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's 'wave' in the country, Dikshit said there was no such thing on ground and it was just a 'creation' of the media.

Rajmohan Gandhi, the descendent of Mahatma Gandhi, and AAP East Delhi candidate owns a house in the USA.

While filing his nominations, Gandhi declared three residential apartments, out of which two are in his name, one each in Gurgaon and the USA, one in his spouse's name in Bangalore. He has showed a total of Rs 1.59 crore as movable assets which include cash in hand, deposits and investments and immovable assets worth Rs 2.35 crore.

With the Aam Aadmi Party continuing to back Rakhi Birla, the AAP candidate for the reserved North West Delhi constituency, she today filed her nomination before the Returning Officer at DC office Kanjhawala where the BJP's Udit Raj too filed his papers.

The 27-year-old Rakhi has declared a total assets of worth Rs 1,63,467 while she has liabilities to the tune of Rs 2,30,000 in her affidavit submitted to the DC office.

Her rival in the constituency BJP' Udit Raj was flanked by party supporters and senior party leaders Vijender Gupta and Nangloi Jat MLA Manoj Shokeen.

In his affidavit, Raj has shown his personal assets to be worth Rs 1.07 crore, which include Rs 71,81,435 under movable head and Rs 61,30,000 under immovable head.

His wife who is in government service owns assets worth Rs 27,68,643 (movable) and Rs 38,33,000 (immovable property) while dependants have assets worth Rs 6,02,285 as per the affidavit. He has one case against him under the court of law.

AAP South Delhi nominee Devinder Kumar Sehrawat (48) has movable assets worth Rs 24 lakh besides his wife's assets under the same head stand at Rs 14.5 lakh. He has acquired property whose value is Rs 1.7 crore while he has liabilities as loans of about Rs 5.4 lakh.

Some other candidates have also filed their nominations. They are: AAP candidates Ashutosh from Chandni Chowk and Jarnail Singh from West Delhi. The sitting Congress MP from West Delhi, Mahabal Mishra, has also filed nomination papers.

Besides, Pravesh Verma, son of the late Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, has filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate from West Delhi. He has a strong hold in villages where Jat votes are in sizable number.

Babysitter found murdered
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 21
A 45-year-old woman working as a nanny was found murdered at her employer's residence in west Delhi's Rama Park area on Thursday night. The two-year-old boy that she was looking after also sustained injuries and is recuperating at a hospital. The deceased has been identified by the police as Inderjeet. She was present at a house in Rama Park with the baby when some unidentified persons attacked her, probably on Thursday afternoon.

Inderjeet had been working with a married couple, Arvinder Singh (32) and Amarpreet (27) for the past few years as a nanny for their child. Arvinder is employed with a leading private bank based in Gurgaon, while his wife Amarpreet works for a private firm in Delhi.

The police said that at about 7.45 pm on Thursday, the couple reached their residence and found the main door open. They saw that the entire house was ransacked.

"The couple rushed to a bedroom and saw Inderjeet lying in a pool of blood on bed, while their son was unconscious," said a police officer.

The couple rushed Inderjeet and their son to the Mata Chanan Devi hospital in Janakpuri. Doctors there declared Inderjeet dead. Their son was given medical treatment. His condition is said to be stable.

Inderjeet's family who stay in Hari Nagar have been informed of her murder.

"The investigations prima facie reveal that the killers had a friendly entry into the house. They might have arrived at the house in the afternoon after the couple left for offices," said the officer.

Investigators said that the culprits and Inderjeet probably had a fight and they allegedly beat her on the head with a heavy object.

A case under the Indian Penal Code sections for robbery and murder has been registered at the Uttam Nagar police station. The police have launched a search for the killers.

LG urged not to allow power tariff hike
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 21
BJP election committee chairman Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra today appealed to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung that he should not allow the proposed hike in power tariff from April 1. He said that private power distribution companies are not cooperating in the audit by the CAG. The LG should order for stern action against the power companies so that they can cooperate in the audit of accounts by the CAG.

Addressing a conference, Malhotra said that the AAP had promised to decrease the power tariff by 50 per cent but it failed to get it reduced and it's Chief Minister and ministers had resigned from the government. The AAP leaders had misled the people.

He said that the BJP had planned rallies to be addressed by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on March 26, but, so far, venue is
not decided. Many more public rallies would be organised.

Criticising the Congress, Malhotra said that condition of the Congress is so pathetic that it was not able to get candidates for elections. The Congress leaders are avoiding contesting elections as they have fear of losing the seats.

After declaration of elections, the survey got conducted by the Congress showed that all the sitting MPs are going to lose.

He claimed that the Congress will be on third position in all the seven seats. The AAP has been completely exposed. A major part of its supporters has deserted due to its betrayal and falsehood.

Congolese woman alleges gangrape

New Delhi, March 21
A 20-year-old Congolese woman has alleged that she was gangraped by two salesmen at her rented accommodation in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area today, police said. According to her complaint with police, the incident took place around 12:30 pm when two persons selling cloths knocked at her door at Hauz Rani of Malviya Nagar.

"She allowed the salesmen inside her room so that she can choose cloths. They suddenly overpowered her and then took turns to rape her," said a senior police officer, quoting the complaint.

The police have recorded the woman's statement and she was sent for medical examination. Police, however, said that they were trying to verify her claims as she was changing her statements.

"We have gone through the footage of a CCTV camera installed at the entrance of the building where the woman lives, but no cloth vendors could be seen on the footage since morning to late afternoon," the officer said.

Investigators are waiting for her medical report to be able to determine the gravity of her allegations. They have also questioned her neighbours who have revealed that earlier she had been threatening her landlord to trap him in false rape case.

Police said the woman had come to Delhi around eight months ago and was doing some computer-related courses. Further investigations are underway, the officer added. — PTI

CWC tells police to trace trafficked maid's employer
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 21
The Child Welfare Committee, South Delhi, has given a month's time to the police to trace a placement agency owner and recover over Rs 2 lakh as wages of a girl rescued by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) after three years of working as a maid. The girl, a resident of Lakhimpur, Assam, was trafficked into Delhi in 2010 by Sushant Dass, owner of 'Khushi Enterprises Placement Agencies' and was made to work at many places as a domestic help.

"I was promised salary, but was not paid anything. I was not even allowed to go home," she said.

Following a complaint by the girl to an activist, the BBA rescued her on June 18 last year from a house in Malviya Nagar. While Dass and his family have absconded, the girl stayed at a rehabilitation home 'Prayaas' for a year.

The CWC, Lajpat Nagar had directed that the victim be paid around Rs 2,40,000 for her work for three years, out of which a sum of about Rs 30,000 has been recovered from her employers.

"The rest needs to be recovered from the placement agency," the CWC said in its order on Friday.

BBA chairperson R.S Chaurasia said the CWC order is a significant sign that the High Court directions regarding the issue are being followed.

"Apart from the prosecution, this will convey that traffickers and those who employ child labourers will not be let off scot-free and will have to repay every single penny they owe to the victims," he said.
