About 58 candidates have been left in the fray for 22 zones of Zila Parishad, Hoshiarpur, including 10 zones for general category, 6 for Scheduled Caste, three for Scheduled Caste women and five for general category women. There are 24 zones of Zila Parishad out of which two SAD candidates had already been elected unopposed from Tuto Mazara and Miani zones.

Two held for preparing adulterated edible oil

The police has arrested Des Raj of Attari and Dalbir Chand of Lakhpur Langeri under Section 420 of the IPC and Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954.

58 candidates left in the fray

About 58 candidates have been left in the fray for 22 zones of Zila Parishad, Hoshiarpur, including 10 zones for general category, 6 for Scheduled Caste, three for Scheduled Caste women and five for general category women. There are 24 zones of Zila Parishad out of which two SAD candidates had already been elected unopposed from Tuto Mazara and Miani zones.

Similarly, 467 candidates, including 82 of general category, 50 of Scheduled Caste, 24 of Scheduled Caste women, 43 of general category women and 5 of Backward Classes, for 201 zones of 10 Block Samitis had been left in the fray to be held on May 19. Three SAD candidates had been elected unopposed in 3 zones out of 204 zones of 10 Block Samitis in the district.

Two held for preparing adulterated edible oil

Hoshiarpur, May 15
The police has arrested Des Raj of Attari and Dalbir Chand of Lakhpur Langeri under Section 420 of the IPC and Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954.

The police was informed that after heating up tallow into the liquid form, the accused adulterated edible oil of various brands with it and sold these in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Amritsar and other cities of the state in the wholesale market.

On getting the information the police raided the Harbans Singh Gate, Mahilpur and seized 5 drums of adulterated edible oil, 20 gunny bags of tallow, 5 empty drums, two large cauldrons, two working furnaces, huge quantity of caustic soda and some other utensils being used in melting tallow. The accused revealed that they used to purchase tallow from Buta Mandi, Jalandhar and after melting, sold the same at various places in the state where edible goods were being prepared.
