Jats reject 10% quota, vow to block entry points to Delhi
Jind, December 13 Describing it as unacceptable, the samiti said it would go ahead with its plan of blocking the entry points to the national capital of Delhi from December 16, in case the demand of 27 per cent quota was not accepted by the government. This was announced at a press conference here this morning by Jat leaders, including samiti president Nafe Singh Nain, Kuldeep Singh Dhanda and its spokesperson Sube Singh. They said the reports that the state Cabinet had accepted the report submitted by the Haryana Backward Classes Commission recommending 10 per cent reservation for five special backward classes, including Jats, was like cheating with the community as the 10 per cent reservation would get divided among the five castes. They said the Jats would come out on the roads from December 16 and block all entry points to Delhi from Haryana as a protest against the non-fulfilment of their demand. They claimed that since the apex court had put a bar on reservation above 50 per cent by and the state had already used the quota up to 47 per cent, it would not be possible for the government to provide the 10 per cent additional quota. They said that as the Jats constitute 27 per cent of the population in the state, they deserved 27 per cent reservation in the jobs and nothing less was acceptable to them. “The government could not absolve itself of its duty by just announcing a move that was impractical and should not take the demand lightly as the community was in the mood to a fight to finish,” said Sube Singh. |
