Stalked, teased: Schoolgirls open up to SSP

Deshraj gets bail 
Chandigarh, December 13
"Merely on the grounds that the petitioner is a senior police officer and will be in a position to influence witnesses is highly improbable," Justice Paramjeet Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today ruled while granting bail to suspended UT Superintendent of Police Deshraj.

City residents experienced the coldest day of the season with the Met Office recording minimum temperature at 11 degrees Celsius and maximum at 25 degrees Celsius today. Cold winds swept the city for the whole day and the people were forced to remain inside their homes.

Tribunal stays order for repatriation of 69 cops
Chandigarh, December 13
A day after the UT police ordered for the immediate repatriation of 69 policemen to their parent states, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has stayed the order after 32 of the affected policemen moved the Tribunal today.

Golden jubilee PGI alumni convention tomorrow
Chandigarh, December 13
The PGIMER will organise golden jubilee alumni convention on December 15. More than 500 alumni of the institute, both from India and abroad, have registered to participate in it. Union Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal will inaugurate the convention at 12 noon in Bhargava Auditorium, PGI.

CTU to ply separate buses for girl students soon

The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) will soon start separate buses for school and college-going girls. The decision has been taken taken to safeguard the girls from eve-teasing,especially inside buses. Officials of the department said they were at presently identifying the routes and the number of girl students, who could avail the service, following which the service would begin.

PU building lies unused
Chandigarh, December 13
Despite the fact that a new building for the newly established departments at PU was inaugurated in July this year, the departments have failed to utilise the infrastructure provided to them. The departments, including the Centre for Human Rights, Centre for Police Administration and Center for Social Works and the University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT), are not being able to move to the places, allocated to them. Meanwhile, the students are suffering the most as they are being forced to attend the classes in the congested rooms.

Man held with intoxicant powder

The Banur police held a man and seized 500 gm intoxicant powder during a checking at a police check post near Jlalpur village on Rajpur- Chandigarh road on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Prem Chand, a resident of Bassi Isekhan village.

35-year-old commits suicide

A 35-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his house today.

Lok Adalat tomorrow
Ropar, December 13
A mega Lok Adalat will be held at the local District Courts Complex on December 15. The District Sessions judge-cum-chairman of the District Legal Authority said at a meeting today. 10 benches will be set up during the Lok Adalat where cases pertaining to marriages, banks and BSNL will be disposed of.

UT tells Punjab officials to vacate residences on time

Citing a Supreme Court order, the Chandigarh Administration has asked the Punjab government employees to vacate their official residences in four to six months once they are retired.

Punjab lead by 101 runs

Riding on a solid partnership for the fifth wicket, Punjab went on to score 243 in 110.4 overs before being bowled out. Chasing the score, Delhi finished the day with 142 for 6 in 51.1 overs and Punjab managed to get a lead of 101 runs.

Football tournament kicks off

The Molly Carver Memorial Football Tournament kicked off today at St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45, Chandigarh. In the opening match, host St. Stephen’s School defeated Mount Carmel School by 3-0. The goal scorers were Rinthan Shaiza, Rishabh and Pankaj.
