New Delhi, November 20 The builder has been slapped a notice for not abiding by the safety norms and asked to apply for a no-objection certificate (NoC) after ensuring the mandatory firefighting equipment. The officials of the fire department said that a report has been sent to the builder stating the shortcomings of the building and the measures that need to be taken to make it safe for commercial use. Meanwhile, the offices have been asked to shift their valuables and infrastructure till the building is issued the NoC. "Until the builder puts in place the firefighting system and takes necessary safety measures, the premises cannot be used," said Rajender Atwal, station officer, Connaught Place. It will be opened only for a few days to assist the staff in shifting their infrastructure, the official added. The Delhi police has registered a case against unknown persons for causing death by negligence under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Barakhamba police station. Several teams of the police, Delhi Fire Services, Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory and the New Delhi Municipal Council inspected the spot. "Charges under Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to repairing building) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC would be added, if negative reports are filed by the investigating agencies. The owners of the building could be named as the accused on the basis of the reports," said a senior police official. Jai Bhagwan, charred to death in the incident, was a resident of Jharoda Majra, Burari. He was found lying near the lobby lift between the seventh and eighth floors around 11.35 am. He was rushed to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. "The postmortem has confirmed that he died due to suffocation. Jai is survived by wife Kusum and two sons," said the official. When the fire broke out, around 15 persons were in the building. While most escaped, three guards got trapped on different floors. Two of them were rescued by the firefighters. |

New Delhi, November 20 The number of mobile phone connections in 2010-11 was 3.88 crore which increased by 37 lakh to reach 4.25 crore in 2011-12. There has also been a slight increase in the fixed line phone connections, she said. Talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that Delhi is the second richest state in the country as far as its per capita income is concerned. During 2011-12, the
figure of per capita income was Rs 1, 75,812 against Rs 1,50,753 previous year. An increase of Rs 25,159 has taken place in the per capita income
during 2011-12. The overall literacy in Delhi was 86.34 per cent with the male literacy of 91.03 per cent and female 80.93 per cent. Sixty-eight per cent families are having their own houses whereas
only 29 per cent are putting up in rented accommodation. A total number of 20.7 per cent households have their own cars. As regards the amenities available in the dwelling units, it is worth mentioning that 99.1 per cent households are electrified with 34.65 lakh electricity consumers. Tapped water supply is available in 81.33 per cent houses. Eighty-eight per cent households are having
TV sets. There are 154 cinemas, theatres and multiplexes in Delhi offering
510 average shows per day. It has been stated in the handbook that around 98,000 persons visit
theatres daily. The consumption of 2.40 crore cases of IMFL, country liquor
and Indian beer has been recorded during 2011-12. The number of ‘vehicles in 2010-11 was 69,32,706 which increased to 74,38,155
in 2011-12. The number of cars and jeeps in 2011-12 is 23,43,113. |

Ltd, Shahdara, said "We have launched our new housecleaning items and to promote our products, we are offering people multi-purpose package consisting of four things at Rs 100. For us, our aim is to reach out to more number of people and we are selling out things on no-profit and no-loss basis." Sachin Sharma, the general manger of corporate sales, Fitness First, which had on display fitness equipment from the domestic range to that for commercial purpose, said, "This show here is an image-building exercise and all our products are here for demo. We have been participating for 15 years and this hall has always been a hit. Though this year, the response looks to be slightly low, we have received over 50 queries until now for business. Last year, we converted 60 per cent queries into sales." |

Family friend held in double murder case
New Delhi, November 20 On October 6, the police has found two partly burnt bodies of women in a room on the first floor of the house in J-Block of Rajouri Garden, identified as Swaran Kaur and her daughter Balbir Kaur (48), the official said. During the course of investigation, it was learnt that two gold bangles of Swaran Kaur and some money were missing from the house. After examining neighbours and recordings of CCTV cameras, the police zeroed in on Darshan Singh, who was their family friend. "Darshan said that he has been serving as a sewadar in a gurdwara. Devender Singh and Dayal Singh are sons of victim Swaran Kaur. Darshan developed intimacy with the family on the pretext of bringing an offer of marriage for Dayal. On the day of the incident, he went to the house and asked for some money as loan from Swaran Kaur. When she refused to give money, Darshan smothered her to death. Then he killed Balbir Kaur who was knocking at the door and raising a hue and cry," said the official. After killing both the women, he poured mustard oil on both the bodies and put some polythene papers over them and set fire on both the bodies. He looted bangles and Rs 23,000 from Swaran Kaur, the official added. |

New Delhi, November 20 Mayank Srivastava did CRPF proud when he won the best all-rounder trophy in gymnastics. CRPF secured the first position with 3 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze in gymnastics while BSF (1, 2) were second. In Wrestling (Greco-Roman), CRPF (64 points) and BSF (53) finished one-two at the top while in free style, CRPF clinched the overall championship with 67 points. In women's Free Style bouts, Haryana Police with 66 points won the title while CRPF (59 points) clinched the second position. In judo, Punjab Police won the title while ITBP and BSF shared the second position. CRPF were third. In the women's category, CRPF eves with 42 points were too far ahead of the second-played SSB (9). Punjab Police were third with 7 points. CRPF men emerged overall winners in weightlifting with 214 points while Punjab Police were runners-up (196). In the women's category, Punjab Police became champions (181) while CRPF came second (171). In boxing, BSF and CRPF finished first and second. Haryana Police emerged champions in the women's section. New Delhi, November 20 The accused, Roshan Lal Bansal, a resident of Outram Lane, Mukharjee Nagar, allegedly called up the office of Commissioner of Police (CP), Delhi, to fix up an appointment for his friend, Jai Bansal, said the officials of anti-extortion cell of the Crime Branch. The accused is already involved in two criminal cases and own 'Tanishik Tours & Travels' in the area of Majnu ka Tila. "One person naming himself as Sunil Jha made a call to the office of CP and introduced himself as private secretary to the CJI on Friday. He wanted to fix up an appointment for one Jai Bansal with the Commissioner. The caller gave the mobile number of Jai Bansal and
also gave his office landline number of seven digits," said SBS Tyahi,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways). The officials of CP office somehow got suspicious and the Crime Branch was asked to look into the matter. The Crime Branch registered a case of impersonation on the basis of initial investigations. During investigation, the police said that they traced the accused, Roshan Lal Bansal, a travel agent and money exchanger. He was apprehended from outside his residence at Mukharjee Nagar on Monday. The accused revealed that in the past also, he has posed as personal assistant to different government officials. |
Rehab grant to prisoners hiked
New Delhi, November 20 The Chief Minister said that she has decided to effect 100 per cent hike in the existing grant. The persons released after a period of six months to five years of imprisonment would be paid a grant of Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 15,000. Those released after a period of five to 10 years would become entitled to a rehabilitation grant amounting to Rs 40,000 instead of Rs 20,000. The amount of grant would go up from the existing Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 in respect of incarceration period of more than 10 years. While considering the hardships of women prisoners, the Chief Minister decided to give them an additional amount. Women prisoners released from the jail would be given an additional amount of Rs 5,000. Their quantum of grant will be Rs 35,000, Rs 45,000 and Rs 55,000, respectively. |
E-court fee system operational in HC, says CM
New Delhi, November 20 It is a fully computerized interface through which both the public as well as lawyers can generate court fee receipts through the authorized collection centres. A single sheet of paper will suffice for any amount of court fee to be generated. The salient features of the new system include web-based secure system, easy accessibility, faster processing, e-court fee receipt number with Bar Code. |
Marginal rise in city’s sex ratio
New Delhi, November 20 Delhi
Statistical Handbook released by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said
that the sex ratio was 866 females per 1,000 males in the Capital in
2011, as compared to 821 females per 1,000 males. National ratio in 2011
was 940 females per 1,000 males. The handbook said the population
increased by 1.92 per cent in 2011 as compared to 3.85 per cent in
2001. The handbook said that over 3.5 lakh births were registered in
2011. A total of 199 died of cholera, while 883 succumbed to fever and
143 died of diarrhoea. As many as 2,898 persons died due to injuries.
The infant mortality rate saw a dip with 21.91 percentage in 2011 as
compared to 22.47 per cent in 2010. |
