Doctor-couple booked for fraud
Dehradun, November 15 The case, which was closed just after seven months of registering it, on not finding the couple, is being opened at the behest of Senior Superintendent of Police Kewal
Khurana, after the news of the couple's arrest in Ratnagiri,
Maharashtra, by the Delhi police surfaced in the media on Monday. Aggrieved advertiser Savitri informed the police that the couple had rented a house on Balbir Road, which was facilitated by the then District Magistrate,
Champavat. Khare would also tell everyone that he was a paediatrician and son of former Coal Minister of Orissa Kunal
Maheshwari. Given to his high profile contacts and his ststement that his office at Chakrata Road was to be inaugurated on January 26 by the DM,
Champavat, the advertising agencies believed him fully. Khare gave advertisements in various national newspapers through these ad agencies, without paying any money and only hollow assurances. After the advertisements got published, some 400 prospectus copies of his institute, each costing Rs 500, were bought by the students. Many left their education half way and took admission in his institute, more so because Khare in his advertisements had assured 100 per cent job placements to the first 100 students taking admissions in his institute. He also offered salaries ranging from Rs 3000 to Rs 2
lakh. Meanwhile, the cheques given to the advertisers bounced. The advertisers did not find any trace of the couple at his house or office on January 11. |
