Four booked for duping man of Rs 20.5 lakh
Accused had promised to send the victim to USA

Phagwara, November 14
The Phagwara Police has booked four persons, including a couple Avtar Singh and his wife Bimal Kaur, Mahinder Singh and Gurmail Singh of Khokhra village under Sections 420/506/465/ 469/471 of the IPC for duping Daljit Singh of Makkowal village of Ropar of Rs 20.5 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the USA.

Phagwara Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the complainant, Daljit Singh, in his complaint lodged with the police alleged that a deal for Rs 14.5 lakh was struck with the accused to send him in Spain in December 2007 and the payment was made to the accused at a hotel in Phagwara.

Later, the main accused, Avtar Singh, accompanied him to Spain on December 20, 2008, but he left him at the house of his brother-in-law Kala in Spain and returned to India, assuring him that Kala would arrange his permanent residency in Spain, but he was forced to return to India just one day before the expiry of his one-month visa of Spain.

The Superintendent of Police said Daljit again contacted the accused, who demanded Rs 6 lakh more and assured him  of permanent settlement in the United States  of America.

The complainant gave him Rs 6 lakh more. He alleged that the accused neither sent him to the USA nor returned his money. No arrest has been made so far. The Superintendent of Police added that police parties would soon be dispatched to nab the accused.
