3 held for attacking villager: The police has booked three dozen people for attacking a resident of Gulabgarh village at his house. Gobind Kumar was injured in the attack and was admitted to the civil hospital. According to the information, nearly three dozen assailants entered the victim’s house on Tuesday night and attacked him with swords and iron rods. Person found dead: An unidentified body of a 45-year-old man was found lying on a platform at Sirhind railway station here on Wednesday. Inderjit Singh, incharge of the railway police station, said the deceased, who was 4 feet, 7 inches tall, appeared to be from the Hindu community. He said the victim had possibly died of cold. However, he added, the exact nature of his death would be ascertained after the post-mortem report. Singh said the body of the deceased had been sent to the mortuary at the civil hospital for identification. The post mortem would also be conducted there.

Man killed in mishap: A man identified as Husan Lal of Asron Colony, located on the
Nawanshahr-Chandigarh highway, was killed and his wife Amarjit Kaur was injured when their motorcycle had a head-on collision with a Mahindra jeep near Asron village. The injured was admitted to the Civil Hospital,
Ropar. Furniture shop gutted: A furniture shop located on Railway Road here was destroyed when a cracker fell on the wooden furniture lying in the shop. The incident occurred at 10 pm on Tuesday. The fire was noticed by nearby residents. The fire brigade was informed and it took about an hour to douse the fire. Vijay Kumar, the shopkeeper, said furniture worth Rs 3 lakh was damaged in the fire.

400 cases of liquor seized: Rajpura police has seized 400 cases of liquor on Wednesday that were being smuggled into Punjab from Chandigarh. Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Gill said that acting on a tip off, the Rajpura police today arrested Abohar resident Golu with a truck, full of smuggled liquor cases. He said that Golu with the help of a few Chandigarh contractors had purchased this liquor from Chandigarh and was going to sell it in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Goods destroyed: Goods worth lakhs and a scooter were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out on Tuesday in a shop located on Kherra Road. Shopowner Dhuna Shah said a burning ‘aatishbazi’ fell upon the waste material, which caught fire immediately. Man dies in mishap: A 35-year old truck driver was killed when his vehicle fell into a canal at Chamkaur Sahib near here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Iqbal Singh of Patiala district. Police said Iqbal Singh lost control of the vehicle and it skidded into the canal. The truck hit a tree on the bank of the canal and died on the spot. Though it was presumed that the accident occurred last night, the truck was spotted lying in the canal by passersby in the morning.
