Woman commits suicide

Tarn Taran, October 26
A married woman, Charanjit, alias Anjali (25), committed suicide by consuming poison at Reshiana village, 10 km from here, late last evening.

She took the extreme step allegedly due to mental harassment and physical torture by her in-laws.

Her husband Naresh Kumar and mother-in-law Raj Rani have been booked under Sections 304 B and 34 of the IPC by the Sadar police.

Charanjit had gotten married to Naresh Kumar only one and a half years back.

The father of Charanjit, Nachhatar Ram, resident of Dhuri (Sangrur), in his statement to the police alleged that the in-laws of Charanjit had been harassing his daughter for dowry since the the marriage.

The postmortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital here today. The accused are absconding.
