Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, September 18
A Hoshiarpur-based public dealing clerk of a foodgrain procurement agency (PUNSUP) landed in the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) net when he was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a commission agent today.

Rupinder Singh, SSP (VB), Jalandhar, in a press note issued here, said Dalvir Singh, the clerk, was demanding the money from the commission agent, Harkamal Singh, a resident of Kangmai village, ever since the agency had lifted wheat from him.

The procurement agency had to make payments by two cheques of Rs 2,24,873 and Dalvir Singh, posted at the PUNSUP’s office in Haryana had been demanding the bribe in lieu of handing over the cheque to him.

Harkamal then approached the Vigilance Bureau and a trap was laid to nab the suspect. He was caught red-handed in the presence of Baldev Singh, DSP, Hoshiarpur, Kishori Lal, assistant agriculture development officer, and Satish Kumar, a clerk with the Agriculture Department. The VB has also recovered the gratification money from Dalvir Singh’s pocket, the SSP added.

A case under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at Jalandhar.

The SSP said the drive was initiated on the directions of Suresh Arora, chief of the Vigilance Bureau, Punjab.
