Cash, gold ornaments looted from house

Hoshiarpur, September 13
Three unidentified masked persons, armed with pistols, robbed a women of Rs 16,000, gold and silver ornaments while she was alone at her house in Manga village. According to police sources, three unidentified masked persons entered the house of Gupreet Kaur at Manga village while she was doing her domestic chores yesterday.

Brandishing pistols they asked Gurpreet Kaur to hand them over her earrings. They also threatened to kill her daughter. Later, they gagged her and took her in a room where they broke open the almirahs and looted Rs 16,000 and gold ornaments weighing about 20 tolas and fled.

At that time Gurpreet Kaur’s husband Amritpal Singh and father-in-law Subedar Shingara Singh had gone to Hoshiarpur for some work.

The Garhdiwala police has registered a case under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Travel agent booked for fraud

Hoshiarpur, September 13
The Model Town police last night booked a fake travel agent under Sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the IPC for duping a resident of Rs 1.47 lakh in the name of sending his son to Malaysia.

According to police sources, Savinder Singh of Guru Nanak Nagar alleged that Amandeep Singh Gill, an immigration adviser and consultant on the Rahimpur road, took Rs 1.47 lakh from him for sending his son Kamaldeep Singh to Malaysia.

Instead of sending his son to Malaysia, Amandeep Singh sent him to Thailand from where the latter got his son cross the Malaysian border. His son did not get any work permit in Malaysia and the authorities there stamped his passport with “no entry”.

Man dies in mishap

Phagwara, September 13
A government employee, Gurdev Singh, resident of nearby Mehli village, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a scooter near Khalwara village on the Phagwara-Banga road last night. The scooter rider, Nirpal Singh, also sustained injuries in the mishap and was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

In another incident, a student of Lovely Professional University, Aringsula, sustained serious injuries in a road mishap near the university last evening.

Four persons - Nirmal Kumar of Rawalpindi, Harbhajan Singh of Chack Prema, and two Phagwara residents Harpal Singh and Vinod Kumar - were injured in different road mishaps near here last night. All injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital. — OC
