The Dasuya police has arrested Raghubir Singh of Ghogra and Roop Lal of Dhadar for allegedly murdering Ravinder Singh of Shrihpur after he refused to serve them a glass of water.

CPI, CPM hold protest

Workers, including women, of the CPI and CPM organised a protest march in the town and staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today against the alleged anti-people policies of the state and the Union Government.

Tara Singh Khehra and Devinderjit Singh Dhillon, district secretaries of the CPI and CPM, while addressing the workers at the dharna site at the DC office, condemned the state government for imposing taxes worth Rs 900 crore despite presenting a tax-free budget in the Vidhan Sabha.

The party leaders demanded the rollback of the taxes imposed on the already burdened people of the state.

Women leaders, including Kiranbir Kaur Valtoha, Rajinderpal Kaur, of the Left parties, too, spoke on the occasion.

Medicine trader looted of Rs 2.5 lakh

Jalandhar, September 12
Armed miscreants allegedly looted a medicine trader of cash and gold worth lakhs of rupees near railway level crossing on the Kapurthala road yesterday. The victim, identified as Kamal, told mediapersons that at around 3 pm yesterday, more than 10 armed miscreants carrying sharp-edged weapons barged into his house and demanded cash and other valuables.

He said when he protested the move, the miscreants threatened him of dire consequences. The miscreants forcibly took away Rs 2.5 lakh, six gram gold, one kg silver, two mobile phones, a television, one pistol and documents of his car.

The victim said when he went to file a complaint before the Kartarpur police, his complaint was not entertained as the police claimed that the area where the incident had occurred was not in their jurisdiction. An official at Kartarpur police station said the case could not be registered at their police station as the spot of the crime did not fall in their jurisdiction.

Man murdered over glass of water

Hoshiarpur, September 12
The Dasuya police has arrested Raghubir Singh of Ghogra and Roop Lal of Dhadar for allegedly murdering Ravinder Singh of Shrihpur after he refused to serve them a glass of water.

They were booked under Sections 302, 34 and 506 of the IPC. Police sources said Ravinder Singh worked at a dhaba at Ghogra village. Ravinder Singh was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dasuya. — OC
