Perform or face transfer, MLA to MNA
Dehradun September
13 The MLA told him that he would be provided the funds from the state government. He asked him to list the proposals. He said the city had broken roads, blocked drains and derailed sanitation system. He said the image of the capital city was getting worsened before the people of other districts or states. He also submitted a memorandum to the MNA enlisting the demands, which included enforcement of a policy about enforcement of taxes so that the residents of the city did not feel the burden of tax. The mutation process must be started again. He said 60 pc of the city was in the dark due to non-functioning streetlights. Hence, the DMC must make the arrangement of lights in each ward of the city. To improve upon the sanitation, the DMC must increase the strength of sanitary workers besides increasing the number of rehris to collect the garbage. The daily wagers must be regularised in place of those who were retiring from the corporation. The small drains should be repaired and patch work on the roads should be completed. The encroachment in the markets made it difficult for people to either walk or drive on the roads. He demanded an effective strategy to remove such encroachments from the bazaars. |

Dalai Lama visits Clement Town monastery
Dehradun, September 13 Amid tight security, the Dalai Lama was welcomed by Tibetans and heads of the Clement Town monastery with robs, burning of incense sticks and frenzied dancing by Yamantaka Lamas. When about 100 monks fled Tibet and arrived in India in 1959, the task before the religious teacher was to re-establish the Mindrolling monastery. In 1965, Khochhen Rinpoche and a small group of monks began the process of re-establishing the Mindrolling monastery at Clement Town in Dehradun. The monastery attracts scholars from all across the world and has become an important study centre. The Dalai Lama had visited this monastery during the inauguration of a Buddha statue in 2002. “The current visit is important for the Tibetans, especially the youth, who have become very restive and will get solace in his presence. Besides participation in religious ceremonies, the Dalai Lama will be visiting Tibetan schools and Tibetan settlements in Mussoorie and Dehradun,” said Gyaltsen, Tibetan Welfare Officer. Before making Dharamsala his home, the Dalai Lama along with his followers had spent some time in Mussoorie after they fled Tibet in 1959. Earlier the Dalai Lama flew into Dehradun in the afternoon in a chartered plane and amid tight security was taken by a car to the monastery where crowds of Tibetan men, women and children were waiting to have a glimpse of the spiritual leader. |
Cong not capable of ruling state: Nishank
Mussoorie, September 13 The two leaders criticised the six-month tenure of the Congress government in the state and termed it as incapable of ruling the state. Nishank said the past six months had shown incapability of the the Congress government to rule the state as it was facing opposition from its own ministers and MLAs who were up in arms at several places on different issues. He further said the government had made no achievement during the six month of its rule in the state. He also said it was trying to sabotage the Tehri bypoll by luring the voters with the cash that was confiscated by the police at Dehradun. Nishank lamented the fact that the present government, with its decision of shutting down the programmes such as Atal Awas Yojna, had proved that it was only interested in using the SC community as a mere vote bank. He further said the ministers in the government were themselves saying that the state government was in the ICU and would evidently fall following the Tehri bypoll. Nishank said the BJP was prepared for the bypoll and the downfall of the Congress government in the Centre would begin with its defeat in the forthcoming elections. Ajay Bhatt, after attending the session here, said the BJP had gained acceptance in the SC community as many representatives were successfully performing their duty at senior posts in the party. Bhatt further said due to the incompetent government, the state was in the state of utter chaos. He alleged that the Congress government in the state was not being run from Dehradun but from 10 Janpath which was really unfortunate. Speaking on the agitation by government employee on the issue of quota in promotion, he said the present government had completely failed in resolving the matter. He said instead of taking rigid stand, the government should bring all concerned organisation on one table and try to settle the matter amicably. He further said people had scrutinised the working of the government and had made up their minds to oust it not only from the Centre but the state too. “The Congress government is on the verge of falling immediately after the Tehri Lok Sabha poll,” added Bhatt. Speaking on the occasion, state president of the SC/ST Commission Suresh Rathore said the two-day review meting achieved the goals for which it was organised in the first place. He said the SC community was aware that the Congress had used them as a vote bank but was not interested in providing them the due benefits. He also said that the representation of the SC committee in the BJP should be increased so that more people could join the party and help in strengthening it. President of the BJP state Scheduled Caste front Ajay Tamta said the discussion here were fruitful for the party and more of such review meetings would be held soon. A separate meeting was held between the general secretary of the BJP state organisation Sanjay Singh and workers from the SC community from the Tehri constituency. The workers were given the instruction to spread the message of the misrule of the Congress government in order to emerge victorious in the Tehri bypoll. |
Development works under DMC stalled
Dehradun, September 13 It has been, for last one year, the contractor lobby assigned for the development tasks. It has been opposing the tender process, first on the demands of the increase in the construction costs in the bidding and later on the issue of payment of their pending dues. No action has been taken till date on the fresh tender, which was invited on August 6. The comparative analysis of bidding could take place in two-three days and thereafter the work orders could be placed. But nothing has moved in this direction. The payment to be given to the contractors for the development works under this fresh tender to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore have also been sent by the state government to the DMC but the officials are not keen on distributing them. Another installment of Rs 7 crore is also in the pipeline. The funds for work under the previous tender process had not been issued for many wards. Vinay Kohli, councillor, Karanpur, is among them. He has not received funds for the development work in his ward since December last year. The MNA tried to seek refuge of the excuse of modal code of conduct in the wake of the Tehri byelections but Kohli made it clear that 11 wards of the city did not come under the embargo. Mayor The fund of Rs 50 lakh for the purchase of electrical items have also reached the DMC, still the material was neither being purchased nor distributed in the wards. Most of the electrical timers have become obsolete. Councillor Rama Gaur said the election for the new DMC Board was due for March next year but the councillors were unable to face the voters for not being able to provide them facilities. The city does not have any place to bury the dead children as well. Councillor Anup Kapoor said, “I have been demanding the allotment of some land from the DMC for the purpose of burial ground for children but to no avail. The officials said they had no land while the DMC land was being encroached all over in the city.” Councillor of Gandhi Gram Jagdish Dhiman complained of massive drainage problem due to blockage of drainage in his area. He said his area remained waterlogged during the monsoon but the DMC did not provide any manpower to clear the drainage. The roads under the DMC domains are in pathetic condition. The stray animals are disrupting traffic by sitting in the middle of the roads. The DMC machinary was least bothered, he lamented. |
