No revaluation of DU answersheets now
News Delhi, September 1 The announcement comes as a worry for the students. Though there had been talks of removing the revaluation system, it was for the first time the VC made the announcement at a public forum attended by students at indoor stadium at North Campus today. Informing students about forthcoming changes, the VC said, "A new evaluation mechanism will be put in place and the current system of revaluation will be removed." According to the DU authorities, this will leave no room for errors or discrepancies in evaluation of answersheets and for having such a full-proof system each paper will be evaluated by three teachers once the new evaluation system is introduced, he said. Prof Singh interacted with students who raised issues related to campus and shared their concerns pertaining to delay in results, sanitation, security on and off the campus, infrastructure problems, including inadequate hostels, etc. They also pointed out that sports facilities at DU were not up-to-the mark even as the Central government is promoting sports in a big way and is heading towards introducing a system for awarding marks for physical fitness in schools and colleges. To all their grievances, the VC assured them that he will discuss the issues with the principals of the colleges and ask them to look into the matter. However, in response to the administrative decision of abolishing the revaluation system many colleges and faculty are in opposition and say that this will be detrimental for the students as ruling out possibility of errors is just not practical. According to Prof Nandita Narayan of Maths department at St. Stephens' College, this is a retrograde step. "It is an anti-students move and the university is doing it just because it is not able to handle too much work. It cannot be implemented without the say of the academic council." President of DU Teachers' Association Prof Amar Deo Sharma said, "Revaluation is effective. This is an improper step and the VC should have consulted the members of the academic council." Meanwhile, soon DU will provide tablets, pre-loaded with lectures and audio-books to visually impaired students. |

The quotes of Sheikh Farid and Mardana have been included in the Guru Granth Sahib," said Manjit Singh. Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leaders Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, Onkar Singh Thapar and Manjinder Singh Sirsa welcomed the Muslims to the party and assured them of a better political future. "Muslims had always voted for the Congress. But now they are fed up of the Congress led-UPA government at the Centre due its anti-minority policies. They are looking for options. As the Muslim community in Punjab is happy with the SAD (Badal) government, community leaders like Mohsin Khan have decided to join the party," said SAD Badal leaders. Mohsin Khan said, "Minorities have a major role to play in the development of the country." Sources said that the decision to include Muslims in the SAD (Badal) was taken before the last Delhi Assembly election. But it was delayed due to certain |
First solar water purification plant opened
New Delhi, September 1 Dikshit said the plant would help produce over 5,000 litres clean drinking water (meeting WHO standard) daily. Over 750 schoolchildren from economically backward homes living near the plant will be allocated five litres potable water daily for each member of their families. Also present on the occasion was East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit. Congratulating SANA for the plant, he hoped that the step would make sure that children remained in schools and go a long way in alleviating the burden of diseases from the community. Managing trustee of SANA Sanchaita Gajapati Raju said SANA zeroed in on this school as it would ensure that lesser privileged families and their children in the area get potable drinking. The water purification station will pump, purify and disinfect water, thus reduce the use of firewood or charcoal for boiling water. It will also have bottling facility, and equipment to produce chlorine which will be used to disinfect bottles before refilling. The system will be owned by the school and managed by students of Class IX -XII who have been trained for the project. |
