New Delhi, August 31 Kamal Nath said that with the launch of the facility for changing the ownership rights, the paper work and hassles of the people would be reduced. The review process has been made consultative and has the people's participation. According to the plan, six open houses were held in all the zones of Delhi in April and May. In these open houses, the DDA has received 4,300 suggestions. Of them, 4,072 suggestions have been uploaded on the website. He said that to study these suggestions, 11 Management Action Groups (MAG) comprising experts of various fields have been constituted. The proposals of the MAG are further deliberated by the advisory group chaired by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tejinder Khanna. The ministry has also constituted an apex committee under the chairmanship of LG with Secretary of Urban Development, Chief Secretary of Delhi as members to submit the revised MPD - 2021 for the consideration of the UD Ministry. The ministry has finalised 23 specific amendments to the MPD for issuing public notice. U-19 cricketer Unmukt promoted to BA II year
New Delhi, August 31 Treating him as the rarest of rare cases, Vice-Chancellor, Delhi University (DU), Dinesh Singh today exercised his emergency power and promoted the 19-year-old cricketer to BA II year. The decision follows requests of Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and Sports Minister Ajay Maken who asked the DU authorities to deal with Unmukt, whose captain innings of an unbeaten 111 had led India to victory against Australia favourably in view of the laurels, the junior cricketer had won for the country. Sibal asked the VC to consider Unmukt's case and asked him if he could use his discretionary powers for the same. In this, he had also pursued the matter with college principal Walson Thampu, requesting him to take up the junior cricketer as a special case and to ensure that he does not lose an academic year due to low attendance. As per the rules of DU, a student is required to have at least 33.3 per cent attendance in an academic session after all exemptions, but Unmukt, who approached the Delhi High Court on the matter after taking two exams of the last semester, fell short of the mandated attendance due to his cricketing engagements. But when Prof Thampu said he was bound by university rules and the VC was told to use his emergency powers. "He agreed to it and said he would be positively inclined," said Sibal. He also called for the need for a provision under university regulations where such emergency powers can be used in special cases in national interest. In Unmukt's case, the university declared today: "DU takes a note of his outstanding achievement that has been recognised…under its ambit of rarest of rare cases in a field of sport… recognised by the Government of India and Unmukt Chand is being allowed to move to the second year and allowed to attempt to clear the course of his third and fourth semesters for the backlog of his first two semesters." |
Road rage: Man held for attacking woman cop
New Delhi, August 31 Nirmala Devi, 42, said that the incident took place when she was on duty with a police control room (PCR) vehicle near the Qutab Hotel and she received a call reporting an accident at East of Kailash. It was a case of road rage where a water tanker and a car had hit each other. "We rushed to the spot where a private car and a water tanker were found in an accidental condition. The owner of the car, Shudesh Goyal, was engaged in a heated argument with the driver of the water tanker, saying that her vehicle had been badly damaged in the accident," a senior police official said. Goyal called up her son Navin to the spot who abused and beat the driver of the water tanker. Seeing the situation getting out of control, the police intervened, but it could hardly hold Navin back. "Navin further entered into a scuffle with the police personnel and abused them," the official added. Nirmala alleges that Navin pushed her during the scuffle due to which she fell down and suffered minor injuries. During the melee, another PCR vehicle came to the spot and its staff managed to overpower Navin. Navin, a resident of Kailash Hill in East of Kailash, was subsequently arrested and a case lodged with the Amar Colony police station.aNirmala also underwent a medical examination at AIIMS Trauma Centre. |

Two soldiers get new lease of life thanks to organ donor
New Delhi, August 31 It was a combined transplant surgery-in a first for the Armed Forces-that would not have been without Meena Devi, a brain dead patient, whose liver and kidneys were used to save the lives of two soldiers, a young and another a retired soldier who was having a kidney failure. The young soldier having primary hyperoxaluria-a rather uncommon illness that arises due to a functional defect in the liver resulting in kidney failure-had been on regular hemodialysis for the last one year. He underwent the joint transplant and the other kidney was transplanted onto the retired soldier. The corneas have been preserved for subsequent transplantation. Doctors at the R&R Hospital say that this combined liver-kidney transplantation, first for the hospital, has been rarely performed in the country. Getting the matched donors for liver and kidney was difficult and with each passing day, despair was setting in for him and his family. Then the family of Meena Devi, who developed intracranial bleed and was declared brain dead at the hospital on August 24, proved to be a saviour for this young soldier. It was as if all the prayers of his newly-wed wife for some miracle were answered when the family of Meena Devi took the decision of donating her organs. Both her husband Naik Ugar Singh, a retired soldier from a proud Rajput family of soldiers and brother Harkesh Singh, took the decision on behalf of their family. Since its inception in 2007, under the Army R&R Hospital's organ donation and transplantation programme, 86 families of the total 111 patients who were declared brain dead at the hospital have been counselled to donate organs. In 41 instances with the consent of the relatives of the deceased, the donated organs and tissues (livers, kidneys, corneas and heart valves) have been successfully transplanted into the needy in armed forces. Over the years, the Armed Forces Organ Retrieval and Transplantation Authority (AORTA) has managed to get a good response within the armed forces, with over 6,500 soldiers and their families pledging their organs in the event of brain death. |
